Skinamarink director Kyle Edward Ball will write and direct a new horror film from A24, following the 2023 success of his exclusively produced film. Ball’s micro-budget horror film became a huge success, utilizing minimalist filmmaking techniques to tell its story. Although this divided critics and audiences, with some praising the film while others found it boring to watch, the ending of Skinamarink still brought the film together in a memorable and mysterious way. It also proved the director’s talent for offering horror experiences that fall outside the typical realm of horror.
Now, Variety confirmed that Ball will direct a new horror film for A24 following the success he had last year with Skinamarink. The new film, titled The land of Nodwill be produced by Central Pictures and SpectreVision, alongside Tatiana Bears and Bruno Vernaschi Berman. Executive produced by Theo Vieljeux, story details remain secret. The same goes for confirming how it will be filmed and how much it will draw from the director’s previous work.
What to expect from Kyle Edward Ball’s The Land Of Nod
Could you take some inspiration from Skinamarink
In 2022, Ball expressed interest in ideas for future horror films, including an adaptation of The Pied Piper, and another about three strangers dreaming of the same house. It is currently unclear whether The land of Nod will be based on any of these ideasor how inspired the film will be by the director’s previous project. Since there’s everything from cryptic, silent moments to loud scares in Skinamarinkthe filmmaker’s next film could be a mix of several different horror angles, telling a distinct story in the process.
The film could also be inspired by some of the best A24 horror films, such as Hereditary or The Witchcrafting a familiar plot with Ball’s directing style. It could also be differentiated from Skinamarink through history alonemaking his enigmatic style of cinema a hallmark of his films. Since there’s no concrete information about the film other than the title, there’s no telling what kind of horror elements will be featured. With two different ideas potentially the focus of the film, either of them could have terrifying presentations when shown on screen.
Our take on Ball is The Land Of Nod
It probably won’t be exactly like Skinamarink
Although some elements Skinamarink will probably appear in Ball’s The land of Nodthe film could still build on his previous work without relying too heavily on it. We think this will help make his next horror film stand out even more, especially if he’s able to mix several different aspects of the genre like he did in his previous film. With more information likely coming soon, it may not be long before more information about his A24 venture comes to light.
