Surviving all the monsters and enemies in the Zone is hard work. STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobylbut dying was harder for the character Skif's English voice actor, Alex Montyro. As the main protagonist of STALKER 2Players take on the role of Skif, who enters the Zone in hopes of earning enough money to start a new life, but is quickly caught up in a conspiracy that puts him even more in danger.
In an AMA at STALKER subreddit, Montyro – TheRealSkif – answered questions about the process of creating Skif's voice and character. From drowned gurgles to death screams, STALKER 2 Developer GSC Game World had Montyro record several sounds for the numerous ways players can die in the game. However, it wasn't until he interacted with STALKER 2 fans that he realized why he had to record so many ways Skif could die. Montryo provided fans with plenty of behind-the-scenes information, including his approach to key scenes and the work required to make the different sounds of Skif's possible deaths. STALKER 2 It's an intense survival game, so this meant Montryo spent a lot of time dying in the cockpit.

Editor ultrafistguardmarine asked Montryo how he felt about them accidentally sending Skif off a cliff to his death. Montryo responded that he finally understood why the developers had him record so many Skif kills and shared a TikTok video of his dying performance in Skif. In the video, Montryo showcases the death screams, grunts, drowning gurgles, and choking sounds he performs as players find new ways to brutally kill Skiff. STALKER 2. With encounters ranging from bullet-sponge mutants to mercenary factions, Montryo has recorded a sound for any setting.
Montyro found his dying day on the stand exhausting and exhilarating, all part of the rewarding experience he was working on. STALKER 2. The drowning noises were also the strangest thing Montryo recorded while making them in a bucket of real water.. He explained that he stuck his head in the water and the developers recorded him short of breath. With such a strong commitment to getting the details right, the GSC Game World team has been rewarded with a large number of sales, even as bugs continue to appear in STALKER 2 the team continues to address them.

Editor O_Vadmi asked the big question in each STALKER 2 player's mind: “How did it feel to work alongside STALKER 2’s other protagonist, Skif’s Pistol?” Montryo aptly responded that it was intimidating to work alongside the game's true main character. It's funny to see Montryo joining in on the joke, how he revealed he hasn't played the game yetbut also because Skif's first pistol is without a doubt the best weapon in the world. STALKER 2. It's easy to upgrade, and since it's part of every cutscene, players can't miss it like other weapons.
This AMA is a great example of STALKER 2 fan base rallying around the game and letting the people behind it take a well-deserved victory lap. While Montryo played with everything, he was also candid and expressed how the developer's passion to finish the long-developed game energized him. When explaining what meant most to him about his STALKER 2 experience, he commented, “I understood how important this game was, so I immersed myself in the process. I loved working on the scenes. The GSC team are lovely, amazing people.”
