Silo Season 2's Big Book Change Potentially Deletes an Important Juliette Storyline

Notice! This article contains spoilers for Season 2 of Silo and Hugh Howey's Wool.Silo Season 2, Episode 2 makes a significant change to Hugh Howey's books, potentially deleting an important story from Juliette's original arc. Despite being quite faithful to its source material, Apple TV+'s Silo did not shy away from recording its own identity, introducing many original elements. For example, Silo the first season completely changes the tone of its source, revealing itself as a mystery thriller rather than being driven solely by its science fiction ideas. The first installment of the Apple TV+ sci-fi series also adds some original characters to the mix, while slightly altering familiar character arcs.

In its first two episodes, Silo season 2 appears to be moving further away from the original Hugh Howey Silo books. While the show still borrows many characters and stories from the source material, it has already introduced subtle narrative deviations that will potentially result in massive changes in future episodes. One of these diversions revolves around Juliette and Bernard's shared narrative and has a lot to do with the political landscape of Silo 18.

Bernard trains Lukas to become his shadow in Hugh Howey's first silo book

Lukas appears to have a different role in the source material

In Hugh Howey's first book Silo book, ThereBernard seems to know little about Juliette's relationship with Lukas. Because of this, shortly after Juliette leaves Silo 18 and enters a neighboring vault, he trusts Lukas and trains him to become his successor. After becoming Bernard's shadow, Lukas pretends to be loyal to him. However, when Bernard is not around, Lukas secretly communicates with Juliette. Not only does he tell Juliette about the impending rebellion at Silo 18, but he also updates her on everything Bernard shares with him.

Lukas' role as traitor is a crucial story development in the original Hugh Howey Silo books because it helps Juliette formulate a well-thought-out plan to protect her people before it's too late. Silo the first season initially hinted at possible romantic developments between Juliette and Lukas, but never took the narrative too far. The books, on the other hand, suggest that Juliette and Lukas become romantically involved when Lukas betrays Bernard and contacts her through Silo 18.

Lukas can never be Bernard's shadow on the show

He has already broken Bernard's trust

Apple TV+ Silo was apparently going in the same direction as the original books with the story's initial development. It portrayed how, although Lukas worked in IT, he gradually got closer to Juliette. However, in the Silo season 1 finale, things took a different turn when Lukas refused to help Juliette access the hard drive she acquired from George Wilkins. The show strayed further from the source material when Bernard learned of Lukas' encounter with Juliette and punished him by sending him to the mines.

Even if Lukas manages to acquire confidential information about Silo 18 that could help Juliette, it's hard to see why Juliette would want to communicate with him after he refused to help in Silo season 1's final arc.

Given that Bernard and Juliette no longer trust Lukas, it seems unlikely that the show will follow Therenarrative. After sending Lukas to the mines, Bernard will probably never trust him enough to have him work in IT again, let alone appoint him as his shadow. Even if Lukas manages to acquire confidential information about Silo 18 that could help Juliette, it's difficult to understand why Juliette would want to communicate with him after he refused to help. Silo final arc of season 1.

Sims' selection as the shadow would erase a Juliette story from the show

There's no room for Juliette and Lukas' romantic developments on the show

Bernard has his eye on Judge Meadows to be his shadow Silo episode 2 of season 2. However, to her dismay, Meadows appears to have other plans: she wants to acquire the heat tape used in Juliette's suit and leave Silo 18. If she can get out, Bernard will have to name Sims as his shadow because he is the only person in Silo 18 he can trust. Like Lukas in the original books, Sims may eventually betray Bernard and help Juliette, since he is already beginning to question the rigid system and ideas that Bernard espouses.

However, there is no room for romantic developments between Sims and Juliette in the series. Considering how Lukas has been completely out of the equation since Silo After the Season 1 finale, it also seems unlikely that Season 2 will advance his romantic storyline with Juliette. Silo season two could still go in the same direction as Hugh Howey Therebut appears to avoid a romantic subplot between Juliette and any of the male characters.
