This post contains spoilers for Hugh Howie’s Wool and Shift.
A new one Silo Season 2 update thankfully buried my biggest concern about Rebecca Ferguson’s return. Despite being familiar with the Hugh Howie books, I had a great time watching Silo Season 1 because of how incredibly it follows its source material and still enhances the element of mystery of the original story. Although Silo Season 1 ends with a major cliffhanger, I can’t help but appreciate how the show gives viewers at least a semblance of closure before paving the way for season 2.
Given how well the original Silo book translated to the small screen in the Apple TV+ show, I’m excited to see what season 2 will bring to the table. However, along with anticipation, I also have some concerns about how the show will handle the story going forward. luckily, SiloGraham Yost, the showrunner of the 2, has offered new insights into his approach for season 2, which is reviving in more ways than one.
Silo Season 2 will equally split its runtime between Juliette’s Story and the events of Silo 18
Silo’s showrunner has confirmed the “50-50” approach of Season 2
in Silo The closing moments of season 1, Juliette ends up outside Silo 18 while a gradual uprising brews in the central underground bunker. The ending of Season 1 suggests that Season 2 will pick up almost midway through Hugh Howey Vol. Since VolThe second half revolves primarily around Juliette’s adventures outside Silo 18 and focuses little on the events in Silo 18, I was concerned that characters like Tim Robbins’ Bernard wouldn’t get enough screen time in season 2. Fortunately, showrunner Graham Yost has confirmed (via TV line) The show will take a “50-50“Approach to portraying the events inside and outside Silo 18.
There are three books in Hugh Howey’s Silo Series:
- Vol
- Shift
- Dust
Silo Season 2 will likely benefit from changing Yu Hui’s vol
The show can’t copy the book’s approach
Silo The success of season 1 can be attributed to its loyalty to its source material. While the Apple TV+ sci-fi show’s season 1 isn’t exempt from book changes, it only deviates from the source material when necessary. Because of this, Silo The Divergence Season 2 by Hugh Howey Vol Can be risky. However, I can’t help but see how this could benefit the show. By dividing its runtime between Juliette’s life outside Silo 18 and the politics within the central structure, Silo Season 2 may take a Balanced approach to portraying how different characters see the post-apocalyptic world differently.
By confirming that season 2 will balance both stories, Silo‘s showrunner has confirmed that it will have all the ingredients that made season 1 a hit.
Expanding on the story of season 1, it could show that while characters like Juliette are dead set on seeking freedom and finding the truth, those like Bernard want to stay in power and obey orders from above. Considering Rebecca Ferguson’s acting forte and brilliant portrayal of Juliette, I wouldn’t mind seeing an entire season primarily focusing on her character. However, Tim Robbins’ embodiment of the antagonist, Bernard, also played a crucial role in making season 1 compelling. Because of this, The show may risk diminishing the impact of season 1’s conflict If Bernard gets limited screen time.
Hugh Howie revealed (by Threads) that Silo season 2 is “One of the best things I’ve ever seen.”
By confirming that season 2 will balance both stories, Silo‘s showrunner has confirmed that it will have all the ingredients that made season 1 a hit. It also promises that, like season 1, Silo Season 2 will maintain the dynamic tension and complexity of the overarching storyline by focusing simultaneously on what Juliette and Bernard are doing. I hope this approach will work for the Apple TV+ series as I expect.
Silo Season 2’s book change allows it to make Solo’s story even better
The show can draw parallels between Solo’s past and Silo 18’s present
Another reason I’m excited about Silo Season 2 has Steve Zahn playing the new character, SolO. in VolJuliette meets Solo after she walks into another abandoned neighboring silo after her Silo 18 exit. Much later in the second book, ShiftSolo reveals how an uprising led to the downfall of his silo, ultimately leaving him as the sole survivor. Considering these Parallels between Solo’s backstory and the current events of Silo 18Apple TV+S Silo Season 2 would greatly benefit from focusing on both Juliette’s arc and the impact of her departure on Silo 18’s citizens.
