Warning: spoilers ahead for Silo Season 2, Episode 1, “The Engineer.”Apple TV+ Silo is filled with little teases that hint at what will happen in upcoming episodes while also combining recent events, and the Season 2 premiere includes a musical moment that ticks both boxes. With Rebecca Ferguson back to lead the Silo Cast as Juliette Nichols, the dystopian sci-fi story continues the mysterious story of the remnants of humanity clinging to existence on the surface of a devastated Earth. Starting immediately after the events of Silo end of season 1, Silo Season 2, Episode 1, “The Engineer,” also leaves things open, but also not as clear.
The end of Silo Season 2, Episode 1 has a surprising amount of dialogue, considering the rest of the issue’s present-day sequences are driven by an impressive physical performance from Ferguson. Without the flashbacks, “The Engineer” would be almost devoid of spoken sentiment. However, the deluge of words in the final moments is not just limited to Juliette and the unknown resident of the safe, as the lyrics of a classical composition also bleed into the narrative.
Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Moon River’ Appears to Be About Juliette’s Story in Silo Season 2
The body of water that Juliette crosses is a stand-in for the song’s titular river.
Juliette Nichols spends a considerable portion of the runtime in “The Engineer” trying to formulate creative ways to cross the gap, which was once a bridge, to the new Silo’s only source of light. After a failed rope swing, nearly drowning after the fall, and a crumbling bridge, Juliette finally achieves her goal – and even manages to find a more solid solution when her original ladder fails. His exploits are perfectly summed up in the lyrical content of “Moon River,” which the stranger plays from the safety of his safe.
“Moon River, wider than a kilometer, someday I will cross you in style.”
Although Juliette is not crossing a river, the deep body of water at the bottom of the Silo could easily be incorporated into the song’s implied meaning. Bridging the gap also requires incredibly creative thinking and immense talent, which would fulfill the line,”I’m crossing you in style.” Song choices are often agonizing in movies and TV shows, so it’s incredibly unlikely that “Moon River” wasn’t chosen for its artistic brief of Juliette’s efforts in “The Engineer”.
1 The “Moon River” Line Could Predict The Future Of Juliette’s Silo Season 2
Ferguson’s Silo Character and Show Newcomer Could Join Forces
The second verse of “Moon River” continues to reflect Juliette’s journey and could easily predict what will happen in the next few episodes. Specifically, Juliette’s dynamic with the stranger is probably what the lyrics foreshadow. The line, “Two bums, going to see the world, there’s such a crazy world to see“, is too moving to ignore. Both Juliette and the enigmatic man could easily be described as vagabonds, so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that they’ll be able to set aside their rocky beginnings and explore what’s left of the world to come. Silo each time.
