Sherlock Holmes vs. Knives Out’s Benoit Blanc? Real Private Investigator picks who is the better detective

A real-life private investigator settles the debate about whether Sherlock Holmes Or Benoit Blanc of the Knives Out Franchise is the best detective. Murder mystery movies and TV shows have been popular for decades, and the character of Holmes, created by Arthur Conan Doyle, has remained a fixture of the genre in various incarnations. Recently, a new detective has emerged on the scene in the form of Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc, who has now used his genius to solve murders in Knives Out (2019) and Glass Bulb: A Mystery of News Out (2022).

In a recent video for wiredPrivate investigator Mike LaCorte answers a question from the Internet about whether Holmes or Blank comes out on top as the more effective detective. LaCorte reveals that, while Blank has the edge in a modern setting, if both were set back in Holmes’ era in the late 19th century, it is Holmes who is the better investigator due to his fieldwork and interviewing skills. Check out LaCorte’s comment below:

“Mr. Blank is now more acceptable. However, if we were to bring Mr. Blank back to Sherlock Holmes’ time, then Sherlock Holmes would win hands down. Modern investigators can sometimes be a bit lazy.

“Some Sherlock Holmes techniques, going out there, talking to people, doing the covert questioning, statements, the type of field work to supplement what you’ve found through all your datasets can be overlooked by some modern detectives. What you can do in Your fingertips make you a complete investigator.”

Our take on LaCorte’s Holmes vs Blank ruling

Holmes is the original pop culture detective

Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Andrew Scott as Moriarty on a roof in Sherlock.

Holmes is perhaps the most iconic pop culture detective in history, and has solved dozens of cases in various mediums since his creation. Although director Rian Johnson has cited Agatha Christie’s murder mysteries as a major inspiration for his Knives Out Films, Blank, the man, is undoubtedly heavily inspired by Holmes. As the original and most iconic detective, it is no surprise that Holmes Goes out victorious in the head to head. What would be really interesting, however, would be to see both of these characters at the same time working against each other to solve a case.
