Node Unreal Tournament games, the titular arena competition is created as a means of providing an outlet for the people of Earth. The games are set against the backdrop of humanity's war with an otherworldly race known as the Skaarj, with mining being the main way to finance the war. This caused problems, riots and uprisings within the working class due to the mining conditions, forcing the Liandri Corporation to create the Unreal Tournament, thus giving the working class an outlet for their anger and violence.
The Skaarj appear in Secret level episode 4, with one of the teams facing Xan in the arena replicating the race design from the games.
In Secret level episode 4, Xan is a mining robot based on the character of the same name from the games. Xan and his robotic colleagues are expendable, causing Xan's anger to turn into the rebellion shown. The Liandri Corporation puts Xan into Unreal Tournament as a means of achieving two things. On the one hand, the people will continue to have their bloodlust satisfied, the second reason being to suppress Xan's rebellion. Evidently this fails.
Xan's Secret Level Episode 4 Journey In The Unreal Tournament emulates the original game
Xan becomes a player substitute
In Secret level episode 4, Xan essentially takes on the role of the player. For example, Xan's AI interface learns and evolves as he fights in the Unreal Tournament, just like video game players do. Another integral element of the original game is the use of “bots”, which players can customize and give orders to fight alongside them. Secret level Episode 4 puts a clever twist on this by having Xan use literal bots as his allies, extending his programming to them and ordering them around during the tournament.
Secret level The end of episode 4 continues this trend of making Xan the player once the robot takes control of Liandri Corp's servers. After doing so, Xan begins changing the layout of the Unreal Tournament arena, from crushing the soldiers sent to arrest him to climbing onto a platform above the crowd. This is a variation of the PC version of Unreal Tournament, which gave players a level editor feature.
Secret Level Episode 4 Uses Iconic Elements from the Unreal Tournament Game
Unreal Tournaments weapons and voice lines are included
All over Secret level episode 4, several Easter eggs from Unreal Tournament are found. Weapons from the original game, such as the Enforcer pistol, Ripper, and rocket launcher, are used in Xan's various fights. As these fights continue to increase in scale, an arena announcer becomes more noticeable. This announcer can be heard uttering several speeches Unreal Tournamentas 'Dominating', 'Double Kill', 'First Blood', and “Shot in the head.”
The True Meaning of Secret Level Episode 4 Ending
As with all episodes of Secret levelthe end of episode 4 explores deeper themes. In fact, one of these themes goes against Xan in some ways by reinforcing the dangers of AI if it is implemented too much in human society. With regards specifically to Xan's perspective, Secret level episode 4 tells a story of oppressed people and their rise to rebellion. Those who are oppressed will not remain so for long, with Secret level episode 4 focusing on this point via Xan.
Although Xan and his fellow miners are supposedly mindless robots, Secret level episode 4 humanizes them and shows that abusing workers considered inferior to Liandri Corporation employees will cause an uprising. Similarly, Secret level episode 4 has a somewhat anti-capitalist and anti-war stance; The Liandri Corporation is forcing lower-class citizens to work in terrible conditions to finance a war they didn't start.
In the game's history and Secret levelIt is these disadvantaged workers who are then sent into an arena against highly trained opponents. No matter what happens, the warmongering and financially rich corporation wins at the cost of people's lives. All of this highlights the issues of war and how some can benefit from such a “deal” in Secret level episode 4, told through the eyes – or, more appropriately, lights – of the robot Xan as he overcomes the Unreal Tournament.
