Secret Level Episode 15 and Fun Connections Explained

Notice! This article contains spoilers for episode 15 of Secret Level.

Secret level
Episode 15 does something a little different than the rest of the episodes in the video game adaptation anthology series, as O embarks on a journey of discovery. Secret level sets out to adapt and explore the world of video games in a unique TV format, with each episode exploring a different title. Prime Video has done a great job developing 15 adventures in the first season that harken back to classic video game worlds and deliver hit after hit of nostalgia and excitement thanks to the creative foundations and engaging stories.

In episode 15, it changed things up with a story that incorporated and explored several different videos game franchises under the PlayStation umbrella. The main character, O, starts out as a courier delivering packages in a race against the clock to unlock small upgrades, but when a mysterious stranger hires her for a mission that seems out of the ordinary, she jumps at the chance. However, his Buddibot is clearly not happy about going off the beaten path, and O faces increasingly intense threats before reaching his destination.

When O finally arrives at the destination of her latest package, she enters the abandoned building, only to see it come to life around her with photos, drawings and posters of beloved video games and herself portrayed as the main character. The truth is that The was actually the intended recipientand the package and trip helped her break out of the repetitive, boring cycle of a mediocre game to remember all the fun she had with a wide variety of games. This explains the PlayStation logo affixed to his bag and his enthusiasm and innate abilities to deal with each new threat.

The was not an ordinary messengerand through her mission, she was able to see the vibrant world of video games, the challenges, and the fun available. Before that, the Buddibot and a pair of glasses trapped her in repetitive, unrewarding cycles that ended up disappointing. It's a love letter to video games and a way of turning the mirror on the audience watching the show, who are likely also passionate gamers, who have wonderful memories of many of the titles that were explored throughout the game. On the way to deliver the package, O encounters several menacing threats. Initially, uniformed guards approach holding large weapons and shouting repeatedly that “democracy didn’t end with you.” Then, she spots a Collossus in the distance that threatens to tear her and her bike apart. Fortunately, the the package comes to life and gives her a new 'unsanctioned' update this helps her escape at the speed of light. Plus, Kratos arrives with a hero's landing, Sackboy flies off in a small air balloon, and O crashes to the ground before a pair of magical wings help her land safely.

All of these moments feature little moments and references to video games, all of which exist within the PlayStation ecosystem. But the biggest threat appears to be Buddibot, which aims to act as a friend and guide. Instead, Buddibot may represent modern distractions. The glasses and mundane could represent lower quality games made in the modern era, more for the purpose of generating ongoing profit than creating a compelling game. As a series designed to speak to video game enthusiastsIt makes sense to end on this note with a call for creativity and fun from games before RNG and loot boxes.

Although the packaging opens to reveal a small, glowing blue creature with multiple protrusions that ends up looking like a glowing Flubber, it also resembles something else that might be more on-trend for the series. This little creature is capable of upgrading vehicles, creating wings and generating impossible things to use to overcome any challenge. Putting this in the context of the series and the episode itself, it seems likely that this creature is actually intended to represent PlayStation controllerswith the blue light appearing reminiscent of the blue LED on PS5 controllers.

The shape is usually bent so that it looks like two points down, which resembles the shape of most video game controllers. The third protrusion seems to be a creative way to give this character personality and make him more lively. But considering the powers it possesses, the way it clings to O, and the fact that it conjures these upgrades and wings rather than transforming into them, it seems more likely that it is intended to represent controllers for video gamesadding to the symbolism and metaphors of this episode.

And, of course, this all goes back to the PlayStation games that inspired it. The final episode of Secret level Season 1 features a wide variety of references and characters taken directly from the catalog of games available for PlayStation. These include God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Little Big Planet, Journeyand Helldivers II to name a few. These games are combined, despite their incredibly different styles and stories, to create a nostalgic feel to the characters from popular franchises emerging and helping to remind both O and the public about these beloved games and the memories that can be created when people pick up and play them.

This is a solid ending to Secret Level, although it means the episode isn't based in any video game world. Instead, it is a representation of the real world, and so it becomes as effective as possible when the audience is made up of people involved in the hobby, with experience playing the games. And considering the connection to PlayStation and Sony Entertainment, these titles are largely for people who opted for a PlayStation over the competition, so they may be less effective as a finale for people who grew up on or preferred games from other consoles. All things considered, Secret level episode 15 is a great conclusion to the season.
