Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence addresses the future of the show, as it was initially intended to run for three seasons. As a show of confidence in one of its strongest originals, Apple TV+ renewed Shrinking Season 3 even before the second installment premiered. But how Ted Lassowhich is also created by Lawrence, and also streams on Apple TV+, the therapy comedy-drama led by Jason Segel and Harrison Ford was conceived as a story consisting of three parts.
In comments to TV Line following the Shrinking season 2 finale, the creator confirmed that the dramedy doesn't necessarily have to end with season 3. Lawrence, who created the series with Segel and Brett Goldstein, said that as long as Apple wants to do morethen they will invent a new story:
“If we're lucky and Apple seems excited to keep doing the show, we'll create a new story.”
The premise was built for several seasons
Shrinking Season three has a lot of open paths, especially as it relates to Paul (Ford) dealing with his declining health and Jimmy (Segel) continuing to grow and grieve the loss of his wife. Overall, the second part deals with the subject of how to forgive and move on. This could close the circle with Season 3, which is planned to begin production in Februarybut the dramatic comedy can evolve from that point. In many ways, it has already happened.

Shrinking turned into a hangout showthe kind of comedy where the viewer tunes in to spend time with some likable characters. If it can lean into that while maintaining the overall focus on therapy, which the show has already been doing, there's nothing stopping the Emmy-nominated hit from lasting multiple episodes.
Avoids a Ted Lasso Problem
Ted LassoThe continued lack of certainty surrounding Season 4 is a problem stemming from the stated intention to stop after a limited number of seasons. This would be an admirable goal, except for the way the cast and crew have regularly signaled that they'd like to do more, and reports have revealed that Apple is working to make another season happen. Shrinking avoids the issue entirely, with the co-creator clearly saying he's ready to do more if executives give the green light.
