Sea Of Thieves and Banjo-Kazooie Developer Releases New Screenshot for Upcoming Game After 3 Years of Silence

After a three-year silence, Rare has just shared a new screenshot for its upcoming title, Always wild. Always wild It's a project the development team has reportedly been working on since 2019, but the company has been strangely quiet about its progress, not making official updates in years and raising questions about the game's future.

Just in time for the holidays, Rare has released a new screenshot of Always wildmaking it clear to everyone that the game is still in active development. The screenshot was shared on the official website Raro Ltda. Account X, showing a character and a deer-like animal looking up at a shimmering, illuminated tree surrounded by an ethereal sky. Rare's Christmas Gift for Fans This Year Is an Always Wild Screenshot

Rare presents an “offer” to dedicated fans without any additional context

The new image for Always wild is not provided with any context from Rare or any additional information about the state of the game or its stage of development. The message that accompanies the image is a simple holiday greeting, with a bit of rare humor thrown into the mix:

Happy holidays, whoever is watching this! We hope you're closing out the year in style, and as it's the day of good gifts and the best food, here's our giveaway – a delicious png for you to enjoy! Okay, let's eat a hypothetical Patagotitano's weight in candy. 'Until 2025!

Patagotitan is a dinosaur that lived in Patagonia 100 million years ago. The massive dinosaur is estimated to have weighed nearly 70 tons when it was alive, so Rare is certainly loading up on candy this year. However, this information does not appear to reveal anything about Always wild or any other IP from the development team. It is possible that the reference is a tip from Everwild's setting or a reference to what inspired the design of one of the game's creatures. Or it could just be Rare, simply being silly and having no bearing on anything.

Rare's new Everwild IP got off to a rocky start

The game was reportedly rebooted early in its development

It's not uncommon these days for a game to spend a lot of time in development, but Everwild's the early announcement and subsequent silence were still a cause for concern for fans. The game received a breathtaking cinematic trailer in July 2020 on Xbox YouTube channel, catching the attention of many fans with its beautiful visuals and mysterious presentation. The game offered players a glimpse into the world of Always wild without revealing too much about what to really expect from the title.

However, early in its development, the upcoming game suffered a series of setbacks. The title's main creative director resigned in 2020, the game was completely remade in 2021, and then all talk about the game ceased. A report of Xbox Era in October this year revealed that Always wild it was still alive and well, and at least playable. Rare's holiday screenshot featuring new art from Always wild appears to be a silent confirmation that the title is still in development, which likely means Rare will share more updates on the title in 2025.
