Although the pending Rub revival will likely pay a lot of attention to established characters, the sitcom’s return is also a great chance to flesh out those who barely appeared in the original series – and there’s someone in particular for whom this could be incredibly relevant. Hopefully, each Rub Doctor will return for Season 10 – or at least the main ones and some of the more prominent supporting characters, like Dr. Mickhead and Dr. However, all nine seasons of Rub were much more than medicine, so countless other characters didn’t work in Sacred Heart.
THE Rub the revival is still awaiting the green light, although those involved in the sitcom’s original run have spoken very promisingly about the show’s imminent return. One of the biggest hurdles so far has been showrunner Bill Lawrence working heavily with Apple TV+ over the past few years, and Rub is a Disney-owned property. Fortunately, Lawrence confirmed a deal that will allow him to earn more Rub is”so close.” As such, JD and company may return sooner than expected.
JD’s mom would be a brilliant addition to the Scrubs Revival cast
Barbara Dorian has only appeared in one flashback and never in a present-day Scrubs scene.
JD’s life before Rub not very covered in sitcom history. Although there are flashbacks and occasional visits from certain members of his family, there is one key figure who never appears. JD’s mother, Babara Dorian, is barely mentioned and is only briefly heard speaking to her son in a flashback sequence. The introduction of John Ritter as JD’s father in 2002 made for a brilliant episode, so it stands to reason that JD’s mother’s entry into the story would be equally compelling – as well as presenting plenty of opportunities for laughs and heartwarming moments.
Near the end of Rub‘Original race, JD reached two huge milestones. Not only did he become a father twice – once with Elizabeth Banks’ Kim Briggs and once with Sarah Chalke’s Elliot Reid – but he also married Elliot. So, it would make sense that JD and his mother would have reconnected. Although There’s still a lot unknown about Barbara at the momentIt’s not unreasonable to assume that she would like to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives. So, the perfect structure already exists to Rub bring her properly into the fold if and when revival happens.
JD’s mother’s absence made him something of an outsider
Other Scrubs characters have histories with their respective mothers
Many of the main characters had their mothers appear on the show. Turk, Elliot, and Carla all had histories that involved direct interaction with their mothers, which puts JD in the minority among his peers. There were certainly many opportunities for Barbara to be involvedas she is mentioned and even contacted by JD on several occasions – but Rub always made the timid decision to never show the interaction itself.
Barbara Dorian was never a particularly glaring absence of JD’s on-screen antics, and the fact that she was divorced from his father certainly explained why they didn’t come as a couple when John Ritter made his only Rub appearance. However, it’s still interesting to note that Zach Braff’s character is in the minority when it comes to never sharing a scene with his mother, while other characters have had chances to do so.
There is already a perfect actress to play Barabra Dorian in the 10th season of Scrubs
Katey Sagal previously played the wife of a character in a John Ritter sitcom
Casting JD’s mother may seem like a herculean task, but there’s actually someone who would be brilliant in the role, not only because of her acting talent, but also because of her connection to the man who played Braff’s father. Rub character. John Ritter appeared alongside Katey Sagal in 31 episodes of the sitcom 8 simple rules…to date my teenage daughterwith the duo playing husband and wife until Ritter passed away before episode 4 of season 2. 8 simple rules continued for a while without its protagonist, it was canceled after the 3rd season.
Ritter and Sagal had great chemistry on the show, and although they couldn’t work together on Rub Season 10, it’s nice to think of them once again enjoying marital bliss at some point in the show’s history. Plus, Sagal would be genuinely brilliant as JD’s mother. While there may be those calling for the return of Margaret Easley – the actress who briefly played/voiced Barbara Dorian in a flashback, Easley is only a few years younger than Braff, so a return to her little Rub paper wouldn’t make sense.
