Although Lucy’s time learning from Dr. John “JD” Dorian was brief, the student/teacher dynamic was a fitting way for Braff to hand over the sitcom’s reins to his successor. It almost goes without saying that her role in the revival wouldn’t be as prominent this time around, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t have a role to play in continuing the story after so long. Rub been inactive for such a considerable period that Lucy will be more qualified and experienced than the original cast was when the sitcom endedand this revelation means she deserves a senior position at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that Lucy will have remained at Sacred Heart for the past 15 years or so, so she could have gone on to work at a new hospital after her internship ended. While this provided a satisfyingly clean break between seasons 9 and 10, Sacred Heart often prides itself on promoting from within. Therefore, it would make much more sense for Kerry Bishé’s character to fall into the same group as JD, Turk, and the other members of the original. Rub cast – even if it is distorting the truth.
