THE Scarlet Witch committed some exceptionally questionable acts in the MCU before leaving in Phase 5, but one of the worst may have saved his enemy from a fate they consider terrible, according to one theory. Wanda Maximoff died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessan event that was viewed with many doubts, but which the MCU has repeatedly stated as true. While the multiverse has somewhat trivialized death in the MCU, there are still other possibilities that could see Scarlet Witch return.
Meanwhile, her son, Billy Maximoff, continues Wanda’s legacy. Billy has already demonstrated some incredible feats of power in Agatha all the timemany of which imitated those of his late mother. Despite his apparent connection to Scarlet Witch, Billy rejects the idea that Wanda is his mother, claiming that the mother of William Kaplan – the person whose body inhabits Billy’s consciousness – is his. After discovering the truth about his origins, Billy embarks on a quest to find his brother, Tommy, alongside the ghost of Agatha Harkness.
Billy changing his mind about destroying Agatha’s ghost appears to be tied to his relationship with Scarlet Witch
Agatha’s pleas may have reminded Billy of his own mother
Agatha Harkness was the arch-villain of WandaVision and enemy of Scarlet Witch. Agatha all the timehowever, it did much to humanize Agatha after showing her to be a loving mother to a sonNicholas”Nicky” Scratch, which she tragically loses to a mysterious illness after just six years. Still, Agatha continues the vile activity of draining witches’ power and killing them throughout Nicky’s life, before intensifying the practice after her death This villainy and his guilt could be what caused Agatha to refuse to join him in the afterlife, stating that she “I can’t face it.”
Billy stops his attempt to banish Agatha’s ghost when she admits this during her ritual. Billy’s reticence to accept Wanda as his mother possibly stems from his knowledge of the immoral acts she committed when alive. Billy may therefore have been reminded of his own mother when witnessing Agatha’s guiltfeeling an innate kinship and compassion. In that sense, Wanda’s own villainy helped spare Agatha from her fate. On the other hand, the feeling of not being able to “face” Nicky may have resonated with Billy, who may feel guilty about his own reluctance to meet his mother.
Scarlet Witch’s MCU Villain Arc Makes Agatha and Billy’s Own Stories Feel Different
Scarlet Witch is partially responsible for Billy’s most questionable acts
Scarlet Witch is now inexorably linked to Agatha and Billy Maximoff. His descent into villainy likely began in WandaVisionas she unethically captivated an entire town of unwilling residents into allowing her to live her idyllic life with a family. This drew Agatha to the Westview Anomaly, where she adopted the role of arch-villain before Wanda drained her power. The trauma of Wanda’s spell, however, is still felt in Westview – something Billy wants to distance himself from.
This causes Billy, at least superficially, to assume someone else’s identity and adopt his mother. He then unwittingly creates the Witches’ Road with chaos magic he apparently inherited from Wanda to search for Tommy, rejecting his heritage and unintentionally causing the deaths of three witches. Agatha agrees to Billy’s conjurations to possibly regain her powers by killing one of these witches herself. These morally questionable (at best) acts can be attributed to Wanda’s actions in WandaVision.
Agatha All Along’s ending makes Scarlet Witch’s MCU return seem more possible than ever
The timing has never been so right
Although it’s been confirmed multiple times inside and outside the MCU, Wanda’s death seems less certain than ever Agatha all the time. Agatha herself helped cast the last measure of doubt about his death by responding “Yes. No. Maybe.” to Billy’s question about whether Wanda is really dead. What’s more promising is that Billy himself survived death through what appears to be the same chaos magic. boasted by Wanda. Furthermore, Agatha has just proven that death – at least in its most complete form – can be circumnavigated by becoming a ghost.
Although the latter option is neither preferable nor likely, the permanence of death has been neglected several times in the MCU – much to Rio Vidal’s chagrin.

Plus, bringing Wanda back during or in time for Vision’s next solo series would make a lot of narrative sense. This series will complete a trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha all the timeand the Scarlet Witch has played central roles in each one so far – which means this upcoming show would be the ideal place to bring her back for good.
