Scarlet Witch’s new student shows off her magic in a gorgeous new Marvel cover

A new witch is coming to town… and she’s being mentored by none other than the iconic Scarlet Witch. Set to debut in Scarlet Witch #6, young Amaranth is an untrained young woman with incredible power and a mysterious origin. The new hero is destined to join the New Champions, with Amaranth’s dazzling brand of pink magic highlighted in a stunning new cover for New Champions #1 by Artgerm.

Amaranth was originally created by acclaimed artist Jen Bartel as part of the New Champions variant cover series, which has also seen other heroic protégés introduced, and the new character will finally be introduced when she passes through Wanda’s magical Last Door in Scarlet Witch #6.

Wanda’s newest apprentice is a new but incredibly powerful witch

Amaranth’s mysterious past scared Agatha Harkness…

Scarlet Witch has never had a proper legacy hero before, so it’s incredibly exciting to see a young sorceress like Amaranth being taken under Wanda’s wing. Furthermore, although Wanda helped train her Wiccan son in magic and was even a teacher at Strange Academy for a time, she’s never had a real protégé before…unlike her own teacher, Agatha Harkness. Agatha taught many witches throughout her long life, most notably Scarlet Witch. which makes it even more mysterious that she brings Amaranth into Wanda’s care. Harkness is nothing if not obsessed with power and control, so what could be so frightening about Amaranth’s origins that she would sacrifice control over the young witch?

Little is known about Amaranth – as if that were even her real name! – or her abilities, but Agatha bringing the young girl through Wanda’s Last Door makes it clear that Scarlet Witch’s chaos magic could somehow translate into training for Amaranto. Marvel makes it clear that Amaranth’s “mystical potential” is incredibly high, but it would be a surprise if she was somehow more powerful than Scarlet Witch or her Wiccan son, who is the Demiurge. The shocking revelation of Amaranth’s past will continue in Scarlet Witch #7, where Wanda, Amaranth, Wiccan and Speed become trapped in a demonic carnival, and Amaranth’s true powers begin to emerge…

Amaranth will join the young group of new champions

But will the sorceress’s dark past come back to haunt her?

New variant cover of Champions #1, the team advancing towards the reader

Amaranth will need to study her magic quickly if she wants to support the New Champions in defeating their first major villain. While New Champions will start with a list of young heroes who debuted in Spider-Woman – such as Hellrune, Moon Squire and Liberty – more young heroes will be added quickly, including Amaranth. However, at least one of the New Champions has a dark secretand a shocking connection to Marvel’s sinister lore, meaning burgeoning sorceress Amaranth could easily turn to the dark side.

Be sure to grab Artgerm’s gorgeous variant cover featuring the magical and mysterious Amaranth, because the from Scarlet Witch the new apprentice will certainly make big waves after her debut!
