Despite his numerous accolades in various roles, Ryan Reynolds arguably gave one of his best performances in Burieda 14-year-old mystery thriller that has an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Originally gaining recognition in comedies, particularly the rom-com genre in recent years, Reynolds is known for his roles in action films and for playing the famous Marvel character Deadpool.. So with a skill set to play highly intense roles, it’s no surprise that one of Ryan Reynold’s best performances is in a Spanish- and English-language survival film released in 2010, just a year after his original debut in Deadpool.
The years that eclipsed 2010 were quite interesting for Reynolds, as they contain his most famous roles; X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released in 2009 along with The proposaland Reynolds played the titular character in Green Lantern in 2011. Reynolds gained notoriety as an action and comedy star and has since broken records with MCU’s Deadpool and Wolverinewith plans for a new non-Marvel film involving Reynolds’ co-star Hugh Jackman. However, among these various famous films, the 2010 Buried seemed to be an underrated film performance from the actor, as his comic book roles overshadowed the highly rated mystery thriller.
Ryan Reynolds plays a man trapped in a coffin throughout the film in Buried
Buried was brilliantly filmed and presented by Ryan Reynolds
Buried follows an American civilian named Paul Conroy (Reynolds), who is trapped inside a coffin for the entire film. While working in Iraq, Conroy wakes up buried inside a coffin, equipped only with a lighter and a telephone.. As he recalls the events that led him to this situation – an ambush by terrorists who left him unconscious with a rock – a phone call from his captor, Jabir, demands a ransom of 5 million dollars, or he will be left for dead. Reynolds received great response for his performance and the film is notable for being filmed in a single location.
Ryan Reynolds’ 2010 film is without a doubt one of the best Spanish films filmed in English due to its intense premise and masterful filmmaking techniques. The entire story takes place inside a coffin and features just one character on screen: Conroy. Therefore, all the action depends on Reynolds’ performance on the inside, creating an intimate and moving story. Buried The home movie release featured an interesting making-of video describing the different coffins constructed filming multiple angles, without any shot appearing to be shown twice, showing the extremely careful process of making Buried interesting, despite being filmed in a very claustrophobic location.
Ryan Reynolds gives one of his strongest performances in Buried
Reynolds couldn’t trust visuals or other characters
Produced with a budget of US$2 million, Buried It grossed $21.3 million at the box office, making it a success, but not nearly enough to be considered particularly notable. This is unfortunate, as the film was positively received by critics for its clever storytelling and Reynolds’ strong performance. With no other characters or visuals to rely on, Reynolds had to deliver something compelling and captivating to keep viewers interested in the film. With Reynolds’ reputation for comedy and action, his performance in this film changes people’s opinion of the actor as Buried demonstrates a clear capacity for more emotional roles.
Ryan Reynolds has undoubtedly had more successful roles, but Buried seems to be forgotten. The fact that the camera never leaves the coffin makes the cinematic experience even more intimate and almost realistic, as the audience experiences Conroy’s claustrophobic nightmare in real time. Conroy’s slow death inside the coffin as he desperately tries to contact the people on the other side makes for an emotionally devastating ending. The film literally relies solely on Ryan Reynolds’ performance to drive the narrative, and with an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, it clearly Buried remains.
