Actor Russell Crowe is returning to the epic world of ancient Rome in the upcoming film, The Last Druid. The film will follow a peaceful Celtic elder (Crowe) who is faced with the task of protecting his family and people from death when a ruthless Roman emperor discovers his isolated fortress in the Caledonian mountains. This project marks Crowe returns to Rome for the first time in almost 25 years since his acclaimed role as Maximus of Gladiator.
According to Deadline, Crowe signed the Roman projectand additional casting is still in progress. The film will be directed by Will Eubank, known for his previous projects such as Underwater and Land of Evil. The film’s producers are Ben Pugh ’42, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Range Media Partners, along with Adrían Guerra of Nostromo. Executive producers include Brandon Millan, Sam Wasson and George Hsieh. Additionally, AGC is launching sales of the project at the American Film Market, with Range Media Partners and CAA Finance handling U.S. financing and rights representation.
