Any film that receives an overall score of less than 60% is considered “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes. The recently released Kraven the Hunter is the latest Crowe film to be declared “Rotten.” Kraven the Hunter is Crowe's third film of the year to have a score of less than 60% on Rotten Tomatoesproving that 2024 was not a standout year for the actor. In addition to Kraven the Hunter, The Exorcism and Sleeping Dogs there were two other 2024 films starring Crowe that were not well received by critics.

Kraven the Hunter is a film produced by Sony Pictures based on a popular Spider-Man villain. Kraven the Hunter is set in the same universe as Sony's previous Spider-Man projects, such as Poison films, Morbiusand Lady Teia. Although some people liked the Tom Hardy-led film Poison films, both Morbius and Lady Teia were criticized by the public and critics. Therefore, there were no high hopes for the launch of Kraven the Hunter.

At the moment, Kraven the Hunter has a dismal Rotten Tomatoes score of 15%. In Kraven the HunterCrowe plays Nikolai Kravinoff, a ruthless Russian gangster who is the titular character's father. Overall, none of the characters in Kraven the Hunter resonated with audiences, and critics noted that it's an underwhelming superhero film. After Kraven the Hunter poor reception, it looks like Sony's Spider-Man universe is dead.

However, his other recent activities have also failed to win over critics. Not counting documentaries, of his last 10 films, only two are “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.

2024 Land of Evil and 2022 Thor: Love and Thunder are the only recent films starring Crowe that have a “Fresh” rating. However, the ratings for these two films are only 67% and 63% respectively, so they were neither critical hits. Of course Russell Crowe is in a disappointing run of poorly received films, so I hope he may star another critical darling sooner or later.
