Warning: Contains spoilers for Alien: Romulus!
Summary
-
Alien: Romulus captures the original film’s tone with minimal humor, unlike other sequels in the franchise.
-
Andy’s Ripley reference provides comedic relief, but seems out of place in the serious atmosphere.
-
The grounded tone of the film makes it a strong sequel, despite the odd inclusion of humor through the replay reference.
Alien: Romulus Made a major reference to Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, but that was the only moment of humor in the film. Alien: Romulus Try to recover the tone of Ridley Scott’s original film, and it did so in a way that none of the others Alien Movies have been able to do. however, Alien: Romulus is still able to sneak in one reference to the original Alien protagonist, with this being the only true joke in the movie.
Alien: Romulus Takes place between Alien And AliensWith it taking more notes from the 1979 original than any other Alien Sequel has. The film follows another group of Wayland-Utani employees who invade one of the company’s abandoned space labs in an attempt to steal some cryosleep pods. The cast of letters in Alien: Romulus Is completely disconnected from Ripley and the others Alien letters, which makes this one replay reference a bit odd.

Andy repeating Ripley’s “get away from you, you bitch” line was funny
Quote the iconic line from Aliens
Near the end of Alien: RomulusAndy swoops in and saves Rain from a xenomorph at the last second, tackling the creature to the ground before shooting it. When he kills the xenomorph, Andy quotes one of these Alien franchise’s most iconic lines, with him saying “Get away from her“Before pausing and adding a humorous conclusion of”You Hor.”
Although the character can’t, This line is a direct quote from a line that Ripley said in Aliens. Ripley kicks off the action-packed sequel’s epic climax by saying this to the Xenomorph Queen before engaging her in one of the franchise’s most iconic action scenes. This line has become a staple of the Alien Franchise, so it only makes sense to include it in Alien: Romulus. However, the way Andy says it is a little funny, with it coming across as more of a joke than the passionate tone of the original line.
