Outlander season 7 episode 13, 'Hello, Goodbye', brings back the nostalgia of the show's early seasons and continues the trend of father-son relationships driving the plot. After Outlander season 7, episode 12, Many questions remain about the fate of Lord John and William after becoming estranged from Jamie following his supposed death and reappearance. However, “Hello, Goodbye” provides some poignant parallels throughout the episode. As the families come together, they are simultaneously separated in other places, and the old and new lovers learn from each other.
Roger and Bree return as their search for Jemmy escalates after Rob Cameron reveals that Jem has not returned to the past. This was a ruse created so he could blackmail Bree and her family. The jumping structure between the two main stories has worked really well so far. Yet, tension drops make it a little difficult to remember where Roger and Buck are and that they are chasing Roger's long-lost father as much as they are looking for Jem.
Love is in the air in Outlander's “Hello, Goodbye”
Whether romantic, family or love for the country
It was clear from the premiere of part 2 that Bree and Roger's storyline is the weakest arc of the season so little can compare to the drama of the Revolutionary War. While it's easy to worry about Jemmy and wonder where evil Rob could have taken him, it's obvious that he'll never be in any real danger. Although Sophie Skelton's performance always leaves something to be desired, she maintains some intense moments, even if this reduces the number of scenes with Claire and Jamie.
Unfortunately, I'll never care about Bree and Roger as much as Claire and Jamie, and “Hello, Goodbye” addresses the couple who are the best successors. The parallels between Jamie and Claire and Ian and Rachel are one of the main themes of the episode, as it's easy for us, Claire and Jamie, to see how the young lovers are also overcoming obstacles to be together for the sake of true love. While the Roger-Bree arc is important to the overall plot, I'm glad it was only explored in every other episode.
Both Claire and Rachel have great moments where they assert their agency and don't let the men in their lives think they're controlling their destinies.
Lord John's fate remains uncertain and William is nowhere to be seen in the episode, but that doesn't mean he isn't up to something behind the scenes. With each passing episode, I'm more than certain that the next time Jamie meets John and William will be on the battlefield. William's overreaction to discovering his parentage was actually a bit over the top, but it opens the door to a satisfying reconciliation. However, the road to get there will certainly be filled with drama.
A lot of talk about sacrifice and difficult decisions is thrown into “Hello, Goodbye,” but both Claire and Rachel have great moments where they assert their agency and don't let the men in their lives think they're controlling their destinies. While it's true that both women have pursued men who rush into the heat of battle, they have reason to be concerned about the war effort and make it clear that they haven't done anything they didn't want to do. In the future, Bree's hand is forced, but she doesn't let herself be pushed either.
Outlander Season 7 Episode 13 Teases Future Revolutionary War Battles
Jamie's future as captain will certainly put him in danger
The progress of the Revolutionary War is halted as Jamie and young Ian wrap up their personal commitments and prepare to rejoin the Patriots. Now that Jamie has been named captain, it is likely Outlander will continue to feature George Washington, and Jamie will be part of key battlefield decisions. Seeing a return to form for Outlander would include Jamie leading troops and Claire patching people up like a skilled medic on the battlefield. This is exactly what Season 7 Part 2 needs to maintain equal amounts of nostalgia and action.
One of the biggest Outlander The questions that hang over the last two seasons are whether Jamie will make it to the end or whether he will die through some heroic action, like sacrificing himself in another war. However, the tease of his death on the ship and Claire's intense grief make me think Jamie is safe, at least for the rest of time. Outlander 7th season. But if this episode is any indication, none of the characters would hesitate to sacrifice much for the people they love.
