The Miyagi-Do team was very angry with Robby Keene in Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2, and for good reason. Robby has long been one of the Netflix series’ best teen fighters, but he has a tendency to let his emotions get the better of him. Still, things were pretty good for this character at the beginning of Cobra Kai season 6, part 1. Robby was chosen for the Sekai Taikai and had his girlfriend Tory by his side. Their goal was to stand on the podium side by side at the end. However, at the beginning of Cobra Kai Season 6, part 2, Robby was completely out of the game.
At the end of Cobra Kai season 6, part 1, Robby defeats Miguel fair and square during captain selection sparring. This meant he would lead the boys in the next Sekai Taikai in Barcelona, which had Robby walking on air. However, in one of the most devastating moments of the series, Tory’s mother passed away unexpectedly, leaving her with great anger and regret. Instead of fighting to become the captain of the Miyagi-Do team, Tory showed up at Sekai Taikai with John Kreese’s new Cobra Kai – and Robby didn’t handle it well.
Robby let his relationship with Tory affect his performance in Sekai Taikai
Robby was devastated that Tory wanted a “break”
Robby was in great shape when he went to Barcelona, but everything fell apart when he saw Tory with Cobra Kai. He was understandably shaken, but it only got worse when Tory told him that she wanted to take a break from their relationship to focus on Sekai Taikai.. This destroyed Robby, and he continued to drop the ball in the early rounds. This went beyond just losing a few points or losing balance. Robby looked anxiously at Tory instead of focusing on his opponent, something that was clear to almost everyone in the room.
Robby dropping the ball in Sekai Taikai is even more frustrating because he was a little too dramatic about Tory taking a step back. She made it clear that this had nothing to do with her feelings for him and that she wasn’t really breaking up with him. Tory’s mother had just passed away and she was desperate to do well in the tournament in her honor, so she simply requested some space. It was obvious that Tory would be ready to change her mind eventually – she didn’t even take her anger out on the conversation or say anything that hurt Robby. He simply didn’t have the appropriate empathy for her situation.
Robby made things worse by hooking up with Zara
Robby’s heartbreak leads to some bad decisions
To make matters even worse, Robby compounded his problems by getting drunk and sleeping with Zara, Tory’s fiercest competitor at the Iron Dragon dojo. He did this because he fell for Kwon Jae-Sung’s provocations. The Cobra Kai boy teased Robby that he was dating Tori, sending his competitor into a tailspin. Zara, who was eager to take Tory out of the game, took advantage of the situation. It all became a huge mess, especially as Robby’s guilt and Tory’s heartbreak meant no one was in the game.
Robby’s poor decision making here had a significant impact on his team. His fellow Miyagi-Do students looked to him for strength and guidance, and he had nothing to give them.
Robby’s poor decision making here had a significant impact on his team. His fellow Miyagi-Do students looked to him for strength and guidance, and he had nothing to give them. Miguel was frustrated because being captain would mean everything to him, Eli and Demetri lost all hope and made bad decisions, and Sam and Devon could only really look on in continued frustration. Each round, it was clear that Miyagi-Do was completely out of control. However, Robby finally pulled himself together in Cobra Kai Season 6 and proved he was a leader – albeit a little late.
Should Miguel have been team captain or did Robby redeem himself in the end?
Everything worked out in the end – but there could have been a better start
It took the emergency with Miguel’s mother, Carmen, for Robby to control himself. Miguel and Johnny left Barcelona, and when they returned, Miguel took a new note of compassion for Robby. He told his future half-brother that he believed in his strength and ability to lead, but that Robby himself should believe in it too. When Robby picked up the rug again, he demonstrated his leadership by bringing Kenny Payne into the match. The boy achieved Miyagi-Do’s victory, thus proving his loyalty and dismantling the doubt and distrust that had festered within the team.
During Robby’s next match, he annihilated Kwon, proving his strength once again. It was a triumphant return for the Cobra Kai character, and he redeemed himself in the eyes of his companions. However, it cannot be denied that, given everything that happened, Miyagi-Do would have been better off with Miguel as team captain in the early stages of the tournament. He wouldn’t have been that surprised by Tory’s betrayal and proved through his pep talk with Robby that he has the leadership skills to keep everyone on the right path. Regardless, that’s not how things turned out Cobra Kai Season 6, part 2.
