Ridley Scott’s outrageous 2012 blockbuster Prometheus would be much better received as a completely new sci-fi franchise than as a tangential Stranger prequel The story takes place approximately 30 years before the events of Scott’s original. Although the film was a box office success, grossing $403,354,469 worldwide against a $130 million budget (via Cashier Mojo), Prometheus was met with mixed reactions from both critics and audiences.. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a good-not-great critics score of 73% and a reliably divided audience score of 68%.
Prometheus was praised for its stunning visuals, thought-provoking themes and brilliant performances from the cast (especially Michael Fassbender as the heartless android). But he was criticized for the script’s poor pacing, for asking more questions than it answered, and for making unnecessary additions to the plot. Stranger canon. It has some great moments of body horror that would make HR Giger proud, such as Elizabeth Shaw’s horrifying self-abortion sequence, but it doesn’t really seem interested in being Stranger film – and it makes too many sweeping changes to the franchise canon for a film that doesn’t really want to be part of that franchise. He doesn’t have Stranger the title doesn’t feature any of the series’ pre-existing characters, and it even has its own visual language distinct from the established aesthetic.
It would have worked much better as an original film, starting its own franchise, rather than as a prequel, forcing biblical allegories into the backstory. Stranger franchise. A group of scientists going into deep space to unravel the mysteries of the universe is a solid enough premise for a sci-fi franchise without the help of familiar xenomorphs. Prometheus probably wouldn’t have made $400 million if it hadn’t sold like new Stranger film from the original director, but spectators would enter with a greater open mind.
Prometheus’ engineers could be the start of a whole new sci-fi universe
The worst thing about engineers is their forced association with xenomorphs.
Story Prometheus revolves around the Engineers, a race of highly evolved, highly intelligent beings who create new life forms throughout the universe with specific goals and objectives. The film shows that Engineers were responsible for creating the human raceand after seeing how greedy and harmful humanity was, they began to plot the destruction of humanity. IN Prometheus‘ StrangerIn a related storyline, the Engineers created xenomorphs to become mortal enemies of humanity and ultimately destroyed them. But if you take the xenomorph out of the equation, it’s still an interesting story.
Given all the wars and genocides in human history, it would make sense for the all-powerful masters of the universe to consider humans unworthy of existence. Having turned this conspiracy into the creation of xenomorphs, Prometheus sucked all the tension and intrigue out of the beginning Stranger movies. What made the xenomorphs so terrifying was the sinister mystery surrounding them; giving them an origin story ruined that. Prometheus is not a good science fiction film due to its connection to Stranger mythology; it’s a good sci-fi film despite its connection to Stranger.
There’s not much that needs to be changed about Prometheus to get rid of the alien connection.
It barely relates to the alien saga as it is
It would be pretty easy to rewrite Prometheus as an original story with no official connection to Stranger franchise. As it is, Prometheus‘ connections with larger Stranger the saga is circumstantial at best. All references in the film Stranger lore – from LV-223 to the Space Jockey, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the Proto-Xenomorphs – could easily be replaced with similar original concepts. Rename Luna and company, replace the Space Jockey with the corpse of another astronaut, and redesign the Protoxenomorphs to look less like the ancestors of Giger’s iconic xenomorph, and Prometheus this is an original story.
If Prometheus wasn’t Stranger movie, then it wouldn’t have been criticized for failing to answer the franchise’s unanswered questions. If this was just the start of a new franchise with many sequels, then the unanswered questions wouldn’t be a point of contention.; they will build excitement for the next part. Hollywood has become increasingly wary of risky, big-budget original films—studios are increasingly confident in investing in projects that reference existing IP—but Prometheus is a rare example of a film that would have been more successful if it weren’t tied to a beloved franchise.
