A second trailer was dropped
With just a few weeks left until the third film hits theaters, the latest news comes in the form of a second trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Opening with Sonic, Tail and Knuckles spending some time in Japan, the trailer quickly shifts to a high gear as the gang is attacked by two generations of Robotniks, as well as their new ally, Shadow. The good guys quickly call in some reinforcements and the battle will spread across the world. Several action sequences are teased, including one where the moon is sliced open by a gigantic laser.

Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves lead a star-studded cast
The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has taken shape and many established players from the franchise are returning. As with the first two installments, Ben Schwartz will return to voice the titular character, Sonic the Hedgehog. Alongside him, completing the iconic trio will be Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Miles “Tails” Prower and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. Jim Carrey is officially returning as Dr. Robotnik despite his high-profile “retirement” from acting.
Along with Carrey’s return, Sonic 3 added a number of new cast members to its ensemble, including Krysten Ritter as Director Rothwell and Cristo Fernández in an undisclosed role. James Wolk, Jorma Taccone and Sofia Pernas will also appear in unspecified roles, while Alyla Browne plays Marie, Robotnik’s cousin. Shadow returns in the Threequel
The end of Sonic 2 introduced the game’s concept of Super Sonic, which is Sonic powered by the Chaos Emeralds, something that could be explored further in the third film. Additionally, the film ended with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles together as a trio, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 promising to present an adventure with the three characters together from the beginning.
The mid-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 introduced one of the game’s most famous characters: Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow will be the trio’s main antagonist, and his powers will be too much for Sonic, Tails and Knuckles to face alone. Instead of, the trio will need to turn to an unlikely ally as they recruit Dr. Robotnik to their cause of taking down Shadow.

With just a few months to go before the film’s release, Paramount has revealed a full trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The trailer opens with a recap of Sonic and his new family in Tails and Knuckles. This is then juxtaposed with the difficult life Shadow has lived, and he is seen breaking free of his bonds to wreak havoc on the world. After failing to take him down in a one-on-one fight, Sonic and his friends must turn to Dr. Robotnik to stop Shadow’s wrath.
Following the previous trailer, a complete new look at Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was abandoned in November 2024. The trailer begins with Sonic, Knuckles and Tails enjoying Japan, with the latter being compared to Detective Pikachu. Suddenly, they are attacked by two Robotniks and their dark ally, Shadow. A series of explosive action sequences ensues and it becomes clear that Sonic and his friends will need all the help they can get to save the day.
