Although fans thought they said goodbye to Woody and Buzz forever in 2019 Toy Story 4, Toy Story 5 has been confirmed. Launched in 1995, the first Toy Story The film was Pixar's debut feature film. Tim Allen reveals that recording is underway
After months of silence regarding Pixar's sequel, the latest news comes in the form of a tease of Tim Allen's story. Returning to play the iconic Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear, Allen spoke candidly about his return to the recording booth for Toy Story 5. Admit it was"weird"to reprise the beloved character he played for nearly 30 years, he revealed that voice work is in progress. Dispelling the idea that film is just a way to make money, Allen made it clear that he and co-star Tom Hanks would not have returned without "a very good story."

Well, I don't know what I should say. Yeah, I just did the first five-hour session for Buzz, probably a week ago. It's very, very strange to go back to that. I can't tell you anything. It's a very, very clever story. Do you want to do five of these? I really don't believe it's about the money. I'm sure they want it to be a success, but that's not why they did it. If they hadn't come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn't have done it and they wouldn't have called me and Tom. [Hanks]. It's very smart. It was really hard to get it, and then maybe two hours later I was doing Buzz. I'm very blessed to be Buzz Lightyear, to be honest. It'll be fun. I think it's a year away. I reached the third act. We will do the third act. And then, let's go back and clean it up. And then I'll do this five more times. It's a really good story, guys. It is very good.

Are Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang returning?
There isn't much confirmation when it comes to the Toy Story 5 cast, although Pete Docter confirmed the return of Buzz and Woody. This announcement isn't particularly surprising, as Buzz and Woody have always been the heart and soul of the franchise since the first episode. This means Tim Allen will likely return as Buzz Lightyear and Tom Hanks as Woodyalthough the actors themselves have not been formally announced. The franchise has always introduced new and exciting characters with each sequel, and Toy Story 5 will be no different.
Disney released concept art at D23 in 2024, and the image featured a number of returning characters from previous episodes.
