After the third season arrived on Netflix in 2023, longtime viewers were already eagerly awaiting any Sweet Magnolias season 4 news to clarify the future of Maddie, Dana, Helen and the rest of the townsfolk of Serenity. During the first three seasons, Sweet Magnolias told stories of drama, romance and more than one hidden secret. The show is based on the novels by Sherryl Woods and follows three South Carolina women who have been friends since childhood. Now, they deal with their complex lives, romance, career and family.

The third season of Sweet Magnolias arrived on Netflix in July 2023 and continued the story of these three friends and their ups and downs in life. With season three covering how Maddie tries to figure out Cal's anger issues, Helen lost in a confusing mix of postpartum grief, and a proposed Ryan and Dana Sue reconciling with her husband, there's a lot that will define the Sweet Magnolias story of season 4 and beyond. Season 4 release date announced

Months after it was announced that filming on the final season had finished, the latest update confirms the release date for Sweet Magnolias season 4. Netflix's popular dramedy has finally set a release date that comes well over a year after the series' renewal. Joining the streamer's ever-growing roster of shows in 2025, Sweet Magnolias returns February 6, 2025. The final installment will consist of 10 episodes, all released on the same day.

Fans May Return to Serenity Soon

Season 3 was not a conclusive ending for Sweet MagnoliasTherefore, Netflix renewed the series for another season in October 2023. The renewal wasn't particularly surprising, but the several-month delay was a worrying sign that the show could have been axed, especially with Netflix's growing reputation for cutting major shows after season 3. However, these fears turned out to be unfounded and the uncertainty in Hollywood due to the strikes likely has made Netflix reticent to take action.

The wait would still be long after the show's renewal, but Netflix has finally put the show on the calendar in late 2024. Confirming that all 10 episodes of Mangolia Sweets season 4 would be released in early 2025, it was confirmed that new episodes premiere on February 6, 2025.

The ensemble cast will return

Sweet Magnolias season 4 will almost certainly see the return of most of Sweet Magnolias season 3 castespecially the three main magnolias. This includes JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend, Brooke Elliot as Dana Sue Sullivan and Heather Headley as Helen Decatur. It's unclear whether Chris Klein will return to the Sweet Magnolias season 4 cast as Bill Townsend, because season 3 ended with him deciding to leave Serenity for a while. It's possible that Klein could return as a guest star or recurring cast member rather than as a series regular.

Some new cast members were also announced – Kamarion Miller, who will join the series in the recurring role of Carter Glass, and Nikita Patel, whose character has not been revealed.

What drama will happen in season 4?

After spending so much Sweet Magnolias season 3, it is likely that the Sweet Magnolias Season 4's story won't put the show's three best friends at odds again. Season 3, despite its solid season finale reuniting the friends and bringing so many story resolutions, still leaves some stories open to set up Sweet Magnolias season 4.

After Trent resigns as mayor, there's a big opening in the city – and Peggy may be the one to take that spot. Bill's story with Isaac doesn't seem finished yet, and there are ongoing questions about a blossoming relationship between Ty and Annie. Speaking of relationships, the main Magnolias also have some relationship milestones to hit – Cal and Maddie are putting the pieces back together and could very well take the next step next season, while Helen and Erik also have some unfinished business.

In addition to the relationships between the characters gaining more story time, what the story of Sweet Magnolias season 4 is still airing. There are 11 source novels by author Sherryl Woods and the first season of the series only covered the events of the first three, while the rest of the series does not exactly follow the novels. There are still other stories that the Netflix series can surprise viewers with, taking from the last one Sweet Magnolias books.
