The legendary horror series from the late 90s I know what you did last summer is returning for a legacy sequel and has already delivered some interesting news and updates. Based on the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, the 1997 horror film follows a group of young adults who are hunted by a hook-wielding killer seeking revenge, a year after they covered up an accidental murder. Fresh off his starring role in Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menedez, Nicholas Alexander Chavez will appear in an undisclosed role alongside The summer I became beautiful star Lola Tung. Meanwhile, Austin Nichols and Gabbriette were cast in unknown roles, with the former being better known for his performance. With the film having the potential to be a bonafide blockbuster, it only makes sense to schedule it for Hollywood’s most profitable period of the year.

Even with many key details about the Legacy sequel still unclear, a release date for the new I know what you did last summer film was developed. Perhaps in an attempt to carry out important sequences like Scream 7the I know what you did last summer the sequel is set to premiere in July 18, 2025. Will any original stars return?

THEOriginal star Jennifer Love Hewitt is still in talks to reprise her role as Julie, but co-star Freddie Prinze Jr.. Considering Prinze Jr.’s decision and his enthusiasm for the project, it seems likely that Love Hewitt will return. How the original series strayed so far from the book’s plot the legacy sequel could turn to Duncan once again for inspiration and adapt it in a more direct way.
