Redneck Futurama parody music video has The Planet Express Crew (and The Robot Devil) reimagined with a catchy tune

A new fan video shows alternative versions of the characters from Futurama in a hillbilly music video parody. Futurama follows characters living in New York in the 31st century, including Fry, Leela and Bender, who work for the Planet Express delivery service. The series debuted on Fox in 1999, where it aired until 2003. After a revival on Comedy Central, the show was brought back to Hulu in 2023, with Futurama the 13th season is already confirmed on the way.

The YouTube video of demonflyingfox adapt the Futurama characters in live-action style. Just like in the animated series, the parody shows Fry waking up in the future. The Planet Express ship has also been changed and looks like an old van. However, it is still green and capable of space travel. Leela is also still the captain of the ship. All characters are now wearing country clotheslike vests and simple white t-shirts. Bender also appears in the video, wearing a red hat and a white sleeveless shirt, but drinking schnapps instead of beer. The video can be watched below:

What the Redneck Music Video Parody Means for Futurama

A different take on classic characters

Even though the music video parody puts the Futurama characters in a completely different setting, yet finds a way to stay true to the essence of who the characters are. Although there are some important differences, such as Fry being more muscular and Bender drinking alcohol, the video even makes it look like they act like the same characters from the animated series. It's easy to imagine that if the show took place in the country instead of New York, the characters would be like this.

The video also gives an idea of what the characters could be like in live actioninstead of series creator Matt Groening's classic style. For human characters like Fry, Hermes, Amy, and Scruffy, they are very similar to their animated versions. However, with characters like Dr. Zoidberg, the video gave him its own twist, giving him a predominantly human body. The video also had to decide whether to give Leela one or two eyebrows, as the animated version has none.

Our Take on the Futurama Redneck Music Video Parody

A fun look at an alternate universe

Futurama characters looking at something

As the video did a good job of capturing the essence of Futurama characters, it's more fun to see them in a different setting. It also shows that a fun idea for the show would be have an episode exploring what it would be like if the characters had always lived in the countryside instead of the city. It could be a fun scenario or a trip to an alternate universe.

It was also nice to see that the video included some of the popular recurring characters outside of the Planet Express crew, like Robot Devil. The parody really puts into perspective that no matter the time or place, the Futurama the characters can easily fit anywhere, which has led to so many crazy adventures in the series.
