Red resulted in a disappointing Week 2 fall for Dwayne Johnson. The new holiday action comedy, directed by Jake Kasdan and also starring Chris Evans, follows a mischievous and friendly duo trying to rescue Santa Claus (JK Simmons) from kidnappers and save Christmas in the process. THE Red release began two weekends before American Thanksgiving, with a disappointing $32.1 million opening, which paled in comparison to its budget, estimated at between $200 and $250 million.
Put Deadlineon Sunday morning, Red is projected to gross a three-day total of $13.2 million at the domestic box office during its second weekend, bringing its cumulative domestic total to $52.9 million. While that surpassed the $50 million domestic mark, marks a sharp 59% drop week over week since opening weekend. This matches Dwayne Johnson’s 59% flop drop in 2022 Black Adamwhich was already its worst drop since 2017 The Fate of the Furious (61.1%).
