Despite his age, Red Dead Redemption still looks great, but those PC Players who want the game to shine even brighter should download this massive mod. The recent remaster of the beloved open-world game has taken Steam by storm, as users who missed out on playing it on consoles can finally understand why it’s considered one of Rockstar’s best titles. It may have aged well, but there are still many features that can be improved further, and that’s where the modding community comes in.
At Nexus Mods, creator Badass Baboon shared his expansive “Reality Redemption – Overhaul Project” mod, which does almost everything imaginable to make John Marston’s Western saga even more beautiful. In a nutshell, the mod aims to improve the game’s visual fidelity with better textures, models, weather cycles and even fixes some continuity errors. Overall, it results in a much smoother game, as BadassBaboon went so far as to tweak some elements to make Red Dead Redemption “a more fluid and realistic experience.”
Making RDR a better adventure
It’s all about immersion
“Reality Redemption” is still in active development, so many aspects of the mod are ready for users, but some of them still need to be completed. Completed features include improved reflection quality, smarter AI behaviors, and updated Euphoria physicsa revised camera that behaves more like in Red Dead Redemption 2and better textures for everything from roads and grass to John Marston himself. Users can expect revised NPCs and building textures, improved sky and cloud lighting, and better rain effects.
“Reality Redemption” is impressive in terms of its scale and the fact that it exists is great news for gamers. Despite many fans waiting over a decade to play Red Dead Redemption on PC, the game itself could have done with a little more work to justify its high price. It still looks fantastic, but if Rockstar wants to charge a premium price for a remaster, it should have done a little more to improve the experience.
Red Dead Redemption is still worth playing
It’s a modern classic for a reason
I love the original Red Dead Redemption and I’m excited to finally play it on my Steam Deck, even if it does make modding a little more challenging. It’s a generation-defining game, filled with defining moments that won’t be easily forgotten. Some aspects of him may not have aged so gracefully, but more than makes up for its clunky movements and tired combat with excellent writing and a lot of heart.
