Dune: Part Two
star Rebecca Ferguson takes to social media to share a behind-the-scenes photo from her time on set, showing a new side of Lady Jessica’s transformation. Based on the novel by Frank Herbert, 2021 sequel by Denis Villeneuve Dune arrived in theaters earlier this year, continuing the story of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides as he establishes himself as the leader of the Fremen on Arrakis. Ferguson reprises her role as Lady Jessica in the Dune: Part Two cast, and the story sees her replacing the dying Fremen Reverend Mother in a particularly agonizing ritual.
Nine months later Dune: Part Two dominated in cinemas, Ferguson now shares a new batch of behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the sequel with the caption: “Memories of the Dunes.” The photos are mainly of Ferguson herself and her transformation into Lady Jessica. Carousel of images includes Ferguson with a fake pregnancy belly and others showing her makeup process for your character. Others feature Ferguson resting on set, and Villeneuve himself also appears in the footage as he directs certain scenes. Check out the images below:
What Lady Jessica’s Transformation in Dune 2 Means for Dune 3
Dune 3’s current status explained
Dune: Part Two ends with a number of storylines still active, and Paul and Chani’s (Zendaya) journey clearly isn’t over yet. The sequel also sets up Lady Jessica for a major role in the future. An important storyline for Ferguson’s character in the film is his communication with Alia, his unborn child, after ingesting the Water of Life. How Paul’s vision and the events of Herbert’s story Messiah Dune reveal, Alia will become a crucial character in the future due to his immense wisdom beyond his years.
Dune: Part ThreeA release date has not yet been confirmed, but Villeneuve is working on the project’s script. While many questions remain about how he will handle the events of Messiah Dunewhich is less of a sci-fi adventure story compared to Herbert’s first book, the director has confirmed that the third film will mark the end of his time on Arrakis. That doesn’t mean there won’t be more Dune films in the future, but it may suggest that the stories of characters like Paul, Chani and Lady Jessica will receive more concrete resolutions.
Our Take on Lady Jessica In Dune: Part Two
Ferguson’s character has become much more interesting
Jessica probably didn’t have much to do at first Duneand the sequel certainly makes her a more interesting and complex character. She generally becomes a more morally ambiguous figure and is clearly willing to do everything possible to increase Paul’s power, even through deceptive means. All of this bodes well for Dune: Part Threeand she could end up playing an even bigger role when Paul’s story comes to an end.
What will be particularly exciting to witness in the next chapter is Jessica’s interactions with Alia.who will likely be played by Anya Taylor-Joy after her brief appearance in the second film. How will Villeneuve adjust timelines to incorporate the events of Messiah Dune remains to be seen, but Dune: Part Two it certainly sets up an exciting adventure to come.
