Reacher Season 3 Already Looks Much Better Than Prime Video Show's Disappointing Second Season

After watching Reach First teaser for season 3, it's hard not to believe it already looks so much better than season 2. Developed by Nick Santora, Amazon Prime Video's Reach is not the first film adaptation of Lee Child's film Jack Reacher books. Before the series, two films, starring Tom Cruise, attempted to bring two of Lee Child's novels to the big screen. Although the first film performed quite well at the box office, the second proved that the film series' extreme deviations from the source material did not sit well with Lee Child's readers. Fortunately, Amazon's Reacher didn't make the same mistake.

By introducing minimal changes to Lee Child's style, Floor of Death, Reach the first season presented a compelling adaptation of its source, allowing it to become one of Prime Video's most valuable IPs. Learning from the success of its predecessor, Reach season 2 also closely adapted most of Lee Child's elements Bad luck and trouble but it still felt underwhelming compared to the first season. Reach Season 3 could have easily fallen into the same pitfalls as Season 2, but as its teaser suggests, it's fixing the previous installment's flaws and bringing back all the aspects that made Season 1 captivating.

Jack Reacher is walking alone in season three

He's the lonely figure he should be

Jack Reacher joined forces with former members of the 110th Special Investigation Unit in Reach season 2. While Neagely, Dixon, and O'Donnell were fascinating additions to the show's roster, they seemed a bit similar to Alan Ritchson's character. Like him, they looked like overpowered ex-military men who could single-handedly take down more bad guys than one. This significantly changed the series and its depiction of Jack Reacher because the character seemed much more formidable and self-reliant when he teamed up with Roscoe and Finlay in the first season.

As Reach The Season 3 trailer confirms that Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher will return to the powerful, solitary figure he was in Season 1. He will not unite with his former military allies and will walk alone as he sets out to serve justice to evildoers and protect the innocent. When adapting Lee Child's Persuader, Reach season 3 is already bringing back one of the best aspects of the first installment of the Amazon series: is embracing the character's lone wolf personality instead of diminishing your screen presence with unnecessary crews.

Although Neagley is not part of Lee Child's group, Persuader, Reach The Season 3 teaser confirms that she will return in some form. However, it appears she will also have a limited role in the new installment and was only added to the roster to pave the way for ReachNeagley's upcoming spin-off show. These suggested details of the story of Reach Season 3 asserts that its focus will remain squarely on the titular character, whose larger-than-life personality and stoic demeanor were key drivers of Season 1's success.

Reacher has a formidable enemy in season three

Paulie is bigger and stronger than Reacher

Amazon Prime Videos Reach left no stone unturned with its casting choices. Because of this, it's not surprising that its creators cast the perfect actor, Olivier Richters, to play one of season three's villains, Paulie. In Lee Child's PersuaderJack Reacher describes Paulie as “a very big guy.” He even compares him to himself, stating that Paulie was “at least six inches taller than“he is”ten centimeters wider in the shoulders. Since Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher himself is a colossal leading man, finding the right star to play Paulie must be a challenge.

As Reach The Season 3 teaser confirms, the show has seemingly found its perfect Paulie in Olivier “The Dutch Giant” Richters. Best known for his roles in Black Widow, The king's manand BordersRichters is over 7 feet tall in real life and weighs close to 350 pounds. While Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher easily towered above almost everyone else in Seasons 1 and 2, Olivier Richters' Paulie makes him look like a lightweight when she stands next to him in the Season 3 teaser.

Paulie's involvement in Reacher season 3 also promises that it will feature some memorable high-stakes action scenes where, for the first time, the titular character will have to use his wits to overpower his enemy.

Jack Reacher has already dominated all his enemies in Reach seasons 1 and 2. However, a slap from Paulie makes his knees buckle, highlighting how the new villain is levels above his previous adversaries. This potentially makes Reach Season 3 is better than Season 2 because the previous installment's antagonists barely seemed like viable threats to the character of Alan Ritchson. Paulie's involvement in Reach Season 3 also promises that it will feature some memorable high-stakes action scenes where, for the first time, the titular character will have to use his wits to overpower his enemy.

In addition to introducing better villains and portraying Jack Reacher as a lone wolf, Reach Season 3 will also have a smaller setting than Season 2. Given how Season 1's small-town Margrave setting played a crucial role in grounding its drama in realism and making Jack Reacher's crime-solving efforts feel more engaging, Season 3 will benefit greatly from returning to a more intimate and focused environment. Reach Season 3 will also play out more as a personal revenge story for the titular character, which may feel repetitive but safely allows the series to maintain its strengths.
