Hugo Weaving provided an update on The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2. The original The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert was directed by Stephan Elliot and released in 1994. It was a dark comedy film that chronicles the journey of a transgender woman and two drag artists who travel from one place to another to perform as a cabaret act. The film’s main trio of actors included Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terrence Stamp. At the beginning of this year, a Priscilla, Queen of the Desert the film’s sequel has been announced.
Talking to VarietyWeaving provides an update on this film sequel. The actor mentioned that he recently corresponded with director Elliot about the film’s progress and “another script to read” as a result. The wrote to The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2 went through several iterationsdoing for “five drafts” in total. Summing up this process, Weaving said it is “looking promising“and what the film is”slowly getting closer to maybe happening next year.” Check out Weaving’s full quote below:

The film appears to have progressed since the summer
The film’s sequel was first announced in April of this year. At the time, there were no updates on the pace of production or expected release date. In July, actor Pearce said there was “no updates at this stage“about the prospects of production nor a schedule. The actor said this”there is a script being worked on“and stated that they”I don’t want to ruin the first by making the second less than it should be.” The new Weaving update would be suggest the sequence is significantly further along than it was this summer.
Still, Weaving doesn’t provide a concrete update on when Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2 will come together. If it is “happening next year,” implying the start of production, likely means the film itself won’t be released until 2026 if not much later than that.
