Marvel Comics interviewed the New Blood creators, offering some insights into their vision for the limited series and which parts of their project they were most excited about. As author Mat Groom stated:
Colliding these worlds is a true honor and a privilege – and it gives us the opportunity to push both sides to the breaking point, so we can all find out if the Spider and Symbiote communities can stand strong against the coming storm… or if they break under the pressure!
The series' main artist, Luciano Vecchio, who most recently provided his talents on the Marvel film Storm (2024) ongoing series, promises a return to the most classic characters from both series, while also introducing a whole cast of new ones. “This time the emphasis is on VERSUS!” he told Marvel Comics. It looks like it will be a series of adrenaline-filled shows, with an emphasis on combat between the two multiverses.
Spider-Verse Web: New Blood introduces three new Spideys to the growing collection of Spider-Man variants. Leading the charge is Count Parker, a vampire Spider-Man, followed by Spider-Prowler and Spider-Hulk. As expected of all Spider-Man variants, the newest trio is instantly attractiveespecially Count Parker. This version of Peter Parker appears to be a more lethal take on the character, noting his pale vampiric flesh and blood-soaked cobwebs. Fans of Into the Spider-Verse the films should also look forward to Spider-Prowler, a fantastic addition considering the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the Miles variant featured in the film series.
With “Fresh Brains,” Venom fans of all eras will have something to be excited about

In WEB OF VENOMVERSE: COOL BRAINS #1the Venomverse is upon us! The existence of Venom and symbiotes throughout the Venomverse will be at stake as they face off against their Spidery counterparts to defend the Hive-Mind Symbiote from the SPIDER-VERSE! As an eight-legged fight comes to a head, meet the three new symbiotes that can put Spiders on the edge of their webs! Which one has what it takes? Could it be the devious Venomouse? The disorderly Katie Power? Or a whole new Eddie Brock? Featuring stories from Groom, Vecchio, Erica Schultz, Chris Allen, Dylan Burnett, Juan José Ryp, Chris Eliopoulos and, in his Marvel Comics debut, actor David Dastmalchian! |
Lucciano Vecchio went on to say what fans should expect from the Venomverse side of the double miniseries:
Matt and I really connected and I enjoyed bouncing ideas off him and making aesthetic contributions. And I'm really excited about our main Venom. While the Venom 616 lore has expanded in entirely new ways over the years, here we have a chance to focus on a quintessential Lethal Protective Venom, for those who have missed it.
Vecchio is referring to a new Venom variant that is sure to excite fans of the character's classic 90s series. Alongside Venomouse and a Katie Power variant is a vintage version of Eddie Brock and Venom who never gave up the title of “Lethal Protector” or their appetite for brains. While the “King in Black” era did a fantastic job of expanding Venom's larger mythology, it will be nice to return to the classic iteration of the character.
Mat Groom and Luciano Vecchio seem excited about this project, consistently reiterating their enthusiasm for the series' art direction and flashy combat.
So far, both introductory questions seem incredibly fun. As always, both Spider-Verse and Venomverse are prepared to deliver a spectacular cast of new and old variants, with a story that will certainly attract and unite readers of all ages. Mat Groom and Luciano Vecchio seem excited about this project, consistently reiterating their enthusiasm for the series' art direction and flashy combat. As the limited series slowly approaches, readers will soon have the definitive answer as to who is stronger, Spider-Man or Poison.
