Prometheus Finally Pays Off Theron and Pearce’s Road Roles
Theron and Pearce’s characters never met on the road, but they had a big scene in Prometheus
Prometheus was not only Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce’s first film together since The roadit was also the only time they were on screen at the same time. In The roadTheron’s character, Woman, only appears in flashbacks where Man (Viggo Mortensen) remembers her suicide. Pearce’s character, Veteran, only appears at the end of The roadafter the death of the Man. As such, Theron and Pearce were never in the same scene in The road. Near the end of Prometheusafter Pearce’s Peter Weyland wakes up from hypersleep and talks to Theron’s Meredith Vickers. Although it was a brief moment, it was very important Prometheusas it revealed why Weyland financed the trip in the first place and that Meredith was his daughter. In addition to its importance to the film, Weyland and Meredith’s conversation finally showed how well Pearce and Theron could work together in a shared scene, albeit three years after their first chance in The road.
There are some surprising connections between Prometheus and The Road
Pearce and Theron’s characters have some similarities despite their many differences
However The road and Prometheus are very different films, each of Theron and Pearce’s respective characters have some unexpected similarities. In PrometheusMeredith and Weyland were obviously linked through a father-daughter bond, and in The roadWoman and Veteran assumed parental roles. The Woman was the Boy’s mother and the Man’s wife, and the Veteran was the true father of two children and an adoptive father figure to the Boy after the Man’s death. While your characters in The road had a similar dynamic together as their Prometheus characters did, each individual character also had some similarities.
In Prometheus, Meredith and Weyland were obviously connected by a father-daughter bond, and in The Road, Woman and Veteran took on parental roles.
For example, both of Pearce’s characters take on leadership roles and are searching for something. While their motivations and morality are definitely different, Weyland was the leader of a large corporation and several employees who were looking for the key to eternal life, and Veteran was the protector of his family who was looking for a way to protect the Boy. Likewise, both of Theron’s characters met brutal fates: the Woman committed suicide because of The roadof the apocalypse, while Meredith was crushed by the Engineer’s ship while trying to escape at the end of Prometheus.
