The Princess Diaries 2 star John Rhys-Davies reveals his interest in reprising his role in The Princess Diaries 3. The Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones star appeared in the sequel released in 2004 as Viscount Mabrey, a member of the Genovian parliament who plans to steal the crown. To do this, Mabrey attempts to manipulate his nephew, Nicholas (Chris Pine), into claiming his place on the throne, before turning to embroil Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway) in scandal. Since then, Princess Diaries 3 has been confirmed, although it is in its early development.
Despite his scheme being exposed to Genovia and his public repudiation, Rhys-Davies revealed the Collider that he not only defends his character, but hopes to bring him back to try once again to seize power. Instead of returning as a simple deputy, the actor suggested Mabrey should have aimed higher than that and become prime minister.
“Of course I do. I think I should be prime minister. I would be prime minister, I should have been prime minister.
Additionally, Rhys-Davies hopes to reunite with Pine. Despite his character’s bad relationship, he had many pleasant experiences with his co-star while filming The Princess Diaries 2.
But yes, by the way, I introduced my sixteen-year-old daughter to Chris Pine. Oh, my God. Chris Pine’s virtues still ring in my ears. But I actually love the man, he’s wonderful. And he likes Dickens!”
The second film left Mabrey’s fate open
Although Hathaway is the only actor currently confirmed to return for The Princess Diaries 3Rhys-Davies isn’t the only actor from the series who wants to return. Your co-star in the sequel Pine is not just excited to see The Princess Diaries return of the franchise, but is also eager to reprise his role Nicolas in the sequel and explore what happens next between him and Mia. He even said the following not long after the sequel was announced: “Call Disney. Call Bob Iger! I don’t know anything about it.“
If Nicholas returned, a The inclusion of Mabrey would be an ideal addition to the sequel. Although his conspiracy was exposed and he was locked out of the church, he was still a sitting parliamentarian in Genovia’s parliament. While his stance against changing the ancestry law could make him an unpopular MP with little chance of keeping his seat, he could still return as a thorn in Mia and Nicholas’ side.
