Presumed innocent
season 2 gets a new update, confirming that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty will not return. Based on the bestselling book by Scott Turow, the first season of the Apple TV+ mystery thriller series premiered on the streamer earlier this year, following prosecutor Rusty Sabich as he becomes the prime suspect in a twisted murder investigation. The show was a huge success and Presumed innocent Season 2 is now confirmed, but the Season 1 finale raised questions about how the series will continue.
Deadline now shares new details about Presumed innocent season 2, confirming that Gyllenhaal will not return and that an entirely new book has been chosen for adaptation. According to the report, Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. TV acquired the rights to the legal thriller Dissection of a murder by Jo Murraywhich features a female protagonist named Leila Reynolds.
The book, set for release in spring 2026, follows Leila as she takes on her first murder case for a defendant who only wants her. The case is further complicated by the fact that Leila’s husband is the prosecutor, and she soon struggles to keep her own dark secrets out of the public eye. THE Deadline reports that there has already been an idea to carry over a Season 1 character into this new Season 2 story, but it’s unclear if that will happen.
