Pokémon TCG Pocket introduces new cards for first post-launch event

Pokémon TCG Pocket released several new cards as part of its first post-launch events. Today, the Japanese account for the new mobile game revealed a new promotional card of the former Lapras, as well as a new Meowth card with a tease that a series of in-app events would launch soon. Former card Lapras has a Bubble Beam attack that deals 80 damage and heals Lapras for 20 damage, while Meowth comes with a simple Pay Day attack that deals 30 damage. No timing has been given for the release of any of the letters.

Interestingly, the Meowth card appears to be tied to some sort of Wonder Pick event. The promotional art shows a Chansey Wonder Pick with the Meowth promo card available as one of the options. Currently, the Wonder Pick function allows players to draw a card from a pack previously opened by another player, so this would be a new type of functionality for the application.

24 promotional cards confirmed for Pokémon TCG Pocket so far

Pokémon TCG Pocket Datamines previously revealed 24 promotional cards as part of the game’s initial launch. Several of these cards are already available in the card store or on Premium Pass. The Premium Pass will likely be a way to obtain exclusive alternate art cards, while other cards will be made available through in-game events or by completing some type of quest. Players can try Premium Pass for free and receive an exclusive Pikachu alt art card now. The Premium Pass costs $9.99 per month.

Other datamines suggest that Pokémon TCG Pocket will also release a mini set in December to bridge the gap between set releases. While full releases similar in size to Genetic Apex are expected to be released once a quarter, These mini-sets should help keep players engaged and active as they begin to fill out their collections. It is currently unknown how many cards will appear in each mini set.

Screen Rant’s take: Fun events are key to Pokémon TCG Pocket’s success

Good events will make or break Pokémon TCG Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Starter Booster Decks

The big question here is how often Pokémon TCG Pocket will host events and how critical each card will be to building a winning deck. Lapras ex seems like a strong card, but it doesn’t seem so powerful that it impacts the game as a whole. Likewise, Meowth appears to be a card made exclusively for collection purposes, although this could change if a strong Persian card is released in the future. Like any service game, the balance between working and actually enjoying the gameplay of the event will be key here. Given Pokémon TCG PocketWith the game’s current limited resources, these events can make all the difference to the game’s long-term prospects.
