Pokémon TCG Pocket features several different currencies for players to use in the game, and while it may be more difficult for some than others, there is a way to acquire each of them for free – even Poké Gold. Like most Pokémon TCG Pocket coins, Poké Gold can be earned by progressing in the game.
Unfortunately, while Poké Gold can technically be earned for free, is the hardest to acquire. While Pack Hourglasses, Wonder Hourglasses, and Shop Tickets are earned through quests and battles, Poké Gold is not. Instead, you’ll need to dedicate a significant amount of time to earn a handful of free Poké Gold.

Earn XP and level up
As you may have noticed, Poké Gold is one of the only currencies that cannot be purchased from the in-game store. However, if you go to the specific Poké Gold store highlighted at the bottom of the regular store page, you will find that Poké Gold can be purchased, but not with Shop Tickets. Poké Gold is currently the only currency that requires real money in Pokémon TCG Pocket application.
That being said, not everyone is willing or ready to spend money on Poké Gold, so luckily there is a way to earn some without purchasing it. Right now, The only way to earn Poké Gold for free is by earning XP and leveling up your account. Poké Gold will be given as a reward for leveling up, but you won’t receive a large amount, just one or two. Additionally, leveling up, especially the higher you get, takes more and more time, so it’s not exactly an effective method either.
In a technical sense, though, earning XP is easy, as all you have to do is play. This includes participating in battles, completing quests, and opening Pokémon TCG Pocket Genetic Apex Packages. Hourglasses can be as useful as Poké Gold
A practical way to progress
Instead of focusing on Poké Gold, I recommend turning your attention to Pack and Wonder Hourglasses. The main use of Poké Gold is to decrease game recovery time, but Hourglasses do the same thing and are much easier to get. Hourglasses are distributed quite regularly. In fact, by the end of my first day of playing, I had earned almost 200 of them just playing solo battles and completing missions.
If you decide to spend real money on Poké Gold, try waiting until there is an exclusive bundle available to receive some exclusive items and Poké Gold, making the purchase a little more worthwhile.
Overall, spend Poké Gold when you have it, but don’t waste time looking for it. There are better ways to decrease recovery time and open more packages Pokémon TCG Pocket. If you desperately need Poké Gold for one reason or another, honestly, it’s probably best to buy it, because right now there’s no way to earn enough to make a significant impact.
