Pokémon TCG Pocket Confirms Apex Genetic Packs Will Remain Available After New Cards Release

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket players will still have access to the game’s first set of cards even after future booster packs are released. Recently, Pokémon TCG Pocket confirmed that it plans to release “new card boosters” before the end of the year. Datamines indicated that this new set would be smaller than the Genetic Apex set that launched the game.

However, there was some concern that Pokémon TCG Pocket would begin to gradually eliminate the Genetic Apex boosters or otherwise make them unavailable to players. The Japanese Pokémon TCG Pocket Account X recently confirmed that it would not pull Genetic Apex store packs after new boosters are released.

Are you enjoying opening packages every day?” says post X, as shown in a translation Reddit publish. “Even after the next expansion pack is released, you will still be able to open “Genetic Apex”, so enjoy opening it at your own pace!” This means that players shouldn’t have to rush around trying to find their chase cards before the new expansion launches.

What we know about the next Pokémon TCG Pocket card set

Pokémon TCG Pocket will release new cards in December

Datamines indicate the next Pokémon TCG Pocket set is a smaller set intended to bridge the gap between “big” expansions like Genetic Apex. While it’s unknown how many cards it will contain, the datamine indicates it will launch on December 16, 2024, providing a burst of new cards later in the year. Following the release of this pack, a full expansion will be released in late January 2025. Assuming this release cadence continues, Pocket will release four “main” expansions per calendar year, along with four “mini-expansions.” However, this is data-based and has not been confirmed by any official reports.

To help keep players busy between releases, Pokémon TCG Pocket is also launching a steady stream of events. After the current Mass Outbreak event ends, Pokémon TCG Pocket will launch a Wonder Pick event focused on Bulbasaur and Magnemite, as well as a solo battle event featuring Venusaur. Both events will feature promotional cards as prizes, iincluding a new alternate artistic version of Venusaur. These events are scheduled to begin on December 6th.

Our Take: Keeping Genetic Apex available is good for Pokémon TCG Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket can only grow if cards remain availableThe three Genetic Apex Booster packs for Pokémon TCG Pocket, Mewtwo, Charizard and Pikachu

Pokémon TCG Pocket it has to balance leveraging FOMO to keep players logging in daily, without making it feel exploitative. By keeping Genetic Apex available for a long period of time, Pokémon TCG Pocket can ensure that new players feel like they didn’t miss an opportunity by not jumping into the game on Day 1 and prevent current players from feeling like they need to dump a ton of money into the game.

It is estimated that 1,700 packages would be needed to collect each Genetic Apex cards, which would take about a year and a half if players opened three packs a day. Wonder Picks and trades should help reduce these numbers, but it is clear that Pokémon TCG Pocket You shouldn’t cut off access to any of your cards anytime soon.
