Pokémon fans need to check out this new indie game that combines monster taming with volleyball

Pokémon went from being a singular franchise to inspiring an entire RPG genre and This early access indie game is the latest title to put a unique spin on the formula. When it comes to monster-catching games that exist outside of the Nintendo environment, players have some decent options, even if none of them have managed to capture hearts and minds like Pokémon. Let the musical notes of Cassette Crossbows or the MMO styles of TemTemthe only thing most of them lack is the competitive spirit of the sport.

Further Steam, developer Wishes Ultd. I just launched Beastieball in early access and it’s already shaping up to be an exciting addition to the monster taming canon.

The general structure will be familiar to Pokémon fans as players explore the world and collect and train unique beasts to compete with opponents. The main difference is that Battle is a turn-based sports game this requires Beasties to use special moves to throw a ball over a net and keep it in the air, like volleyball.

There’s more to Beastieball than meets the eye

Seems deeper than one might expect

Battles are not just determined by how players use their Beasties’ features and special moves, such as The creatures’ relationships with each other will also affect their performance. Beasties on a team can become “Besties, Partners, Rivals, or Sweethearts,” with each providing a powerful combo move that is different for each pair. This type of variety should provide a lot of diversity when putting together a team, encouraging players to mix and match the various Beasties available.

Beastieball also incorporates a fun structural change that allows players to face the game’s bosses in any order they desire. This not only encourages replayability, but also allows for fun challenges and emergent gameplay that can result in two players taking very different paths through the game. On their journey, they will encounter more than enemy trainers, as players will be able to make new friends, make deals with corporate sponsors, and maybe even track down the elusive King of Sports.

Beastieball looks fantastic

One to keep an eye on

I’m very excited to try it Beastieball mainly because I love Pokémon. The game is being developed by the team that created the excellent Wandering Song and Chicory: a colorful taleboth so unique in their style and message that I found it hard not to love them. Beastieball is apparently Wishes Ultd’s biggest project. so far, so I’m glad he opted for early access: establishing an audience early and growing from their feedback can be incredibly helpful.
