PlayStation State of Game gets surprise day announcement with more than 20 games to be revealed

The rumors are true: there is indeed a Playstation state of play Scheduled for September 2024. Effectively an answer to the Nintendo Direct, State of Play is Sony’s semi-annual event for the announcement of new games, consoles and other technologies in the PlayStation family. It is a platform for Sony to update its fans on everything new they can expect from the PlayStation platform in the coming months, and often hosts major new game announcements that make it a highly anticipated event.

PlayStation has finally confirmed a state of play for September 24, 2024 (ie, tomorrow) at 3:00 PM PDTThrough a post on the official playstation.blog. For reference, that’s 6:00pm on the East Coast, 11:00pm BST, and 8:00am on September 25th in AEST. It will be available to stream via both Twitch and YouTube, in either English or Japanese. This confirms rumors from earlier this month that suggested a state of play would arrive in late September.

According to the blog post, More than 20 different games are expected to be featuredIncluding titles for both the PS5 and the PS VR2 headset. Although no specific titles have yet to be confirmed, and there are relatively few credible rumors about upcoming PlayStation releases, it may be possible to guess some of the biggest announcements from the show.

Everything expected in the September 2024 state of play

(and some unexpected announcements)

First, let’s start with the obvious: already confirmed PS5 titles like these Silent Hill 2 Remake and Death stranding 2 will likely get some kind of mention during the September 2024 State of the Game, perhaps in the form of a new trailer for Quiet Hillor a release date for Death stranding 2. The recently announced PS5 Pro can also be expected to make an appearancePerhaps in a shiny new Sizz reel, or alongside announcements of launch titles.

Then there are the rumors. An ESRB rating earlier this month basically confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn Is getting a remaster soonWhich may very well get a nod during the state of play. In a similar vein, industry insider Jeff Grubb of Giant bomb Recently suggested that there was another, “Less exciting” Remaster comes soon to PlayStation. Many quickly latched onto the idea of this is the long-awaited Blood PS5 release, but frankly, “Less exciting” is probably not the appropriate descriptor for such a thing. Other PlayStation titles, viz Days gone Or God of warare much more likely candidates.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Developers Insomniac Games also have a couple of things in the worksAccording to leaks from earlier this year. A Wolverine Game is expected to be released in 2026, and a Poison Play once before that. If Poison Due in 2025, the September 2024 State of Play could be the perfect opportunity to reveal this. Others have speculated that New titles may come from one or more of PlayStation Studios’ own development companies: Soccer Punch Productions, developers of Ghost of TsushimaOr Naughty Dog, developers of The last of us And UnchartedFor example.

But in all honesty, whatever is planned for the 20-plus games to be revealed, most of them will probably be surprises. Very little has been confirmed so far, and if any of the rumors are accurate, the devs have kept it well under wraps. The rest will have to wait until the actual event, but with a September 24 air date, players won’t have too much time to worry about what’s to come in the State of play.
