New series Dragon Ball DAIMA offers a completely different continuation Dragon Ball story, and thanks to its placement in the series’ chronology, it has the ability to avoid one of the biggest stereotypes in the other series: the need for new transformations. Instead of, Dragon Ball DAIMA maybe more like the original Dragon Balloffering a grand sense of adventure.
Transformations and new forms have become so commonplace for Dragon Ball that any new project is expected to bring with it a new transformation, but it is forgotten that the original Dragon Ball the anime did not introduce any new forms. The first new form, Super Saiyan, was not introduced until much later. Dragon Ball Z began, and since then, every enemy has demanded that Goku and Vegeta acquire new, stronger forms in order to win. While there is nothing wrong with this, it is important to remember that Dragon Ball existed long before the era of new forms, and could again.
If DAIMA happens before Super, then it wouldn’t make sense for Goku to get a new form
Giving Goku a New Form in DAIMA Could Confuse Things
All signs currently point to DAYMA installed earlier Superor at least in an alternate continuity from it. Lack of any characters from Superas well as some changes, such as changes in Goku and Vegeta’s clothing, all reinforce the idea that DAYMA happens earlier Super. If DAYMA it really should be earlier Superthen giving Goku a new transformation in this series wouldn’t make much sense.. The question, of course, would be: “Why didn’t Goku use this new form in Super?”
The only way such a new transformation would make sense is if Goku could only perform it in his mini form and would not be able to perform it as an adult. This would automatically explain why it doesn’t show up in Super (he can’t do that) and why is it exclusive to DAYMA. It could be pointed out that the existence GT didn’t interfere Dragon Ball Super from the introduction of new forms, and this is true. However, Dragon Ball Continuity is maintained a little more strictly these days than it was back then. Super debuted for the first time, so the powers that be may not want to create further succession problems.
Original Dragon Ball there was no need to introduce new forms for each big bad, so DAYMA Of course, you can get by using already existing transformations (and it will be since the trailer shows Mini Goku as a Super Saiyan). With a huge new world to explore in the form of the Demon Realm, Goku and the other characters have plenty to do and see. DAYMA without worrying about new transformations and enhancements. It can reproduce the adventure travel element just like the original. Dragon Ball done, and focus on more than just the action.
New shapes worked great for Z, GT and Super (but DAIMA should still avoid them)
DAIMA must differentiate itself by avoiding new forms
None of this means that there is anything wrong with introducing new forms. Super Saiyan appears in Z is without a doubt one of the most iconic moments in anime history, and Ultra Instinct Super was almost as impressive. However, new forms should not be created because they seem obligatory; they should be added when it makes sense for the sake of the story. These two transformations particularly stand out because of how important they are to the story, whereas other forms (like Super Saiyan 3) simply didn’t deliver the same impact.
Since Goku has already shrunk down to child size, it would make sense to treat him almost the same way he was treated when his character was still a child in the beginning Dragon Ball. Goku will also not be alone in this adventure, just like in the original. It will be much more interesting to see Goku relying on his comrades rather than strength to face a new form or abilities. These new characters deserve a chance to shine and be developed just like the old fan favorite characters, and if Goku does everything, it will ruin that.
DAYMA is intended to be a celebration of the franchise’s 40th anniversary, so it makes sense to remember where it all began. He’s already doing that by turning Goku back into a child, but he should also bring back some of the other elements that made fans fall in love with him. Dragon Ball for starters.
All signs point to DAIMA bringing more love to the original era of Dragon Ball than ever before
The original era of Dragon Ball deserves recognition
From what has been observed DAYMA it definitely looks like this at the moment Dragon Ball adventures will be more in line with the original series than Z or Super. It may be a little different from what some fans expect, but the reason for all this is that this couldn’t be more true Dragon Ball than young Goku traveling the world with a group of friends. Dragon Ball Zfor example, he visited new places such as Namek, but he was unable to explore these places much due to the immediate threat they were under. WITH DAYMAIn a plot to age the characters, Goku is on a mission more similar to acquiring the Dragon Balls.
Of course, it will be interesting to find out what kind of series this is. Dragon Ball DAIMA will be, especially since it was the last work to which Akira Toriyama made a major contribution before his death earlier this year. Toriyama always liked the original tone Dragon Ballso it makes sense that this anime series, as a tribute to the franchise’s roots, could reflect that love. Dragon Ball DAIMA can stand out by being a throwback to the original and avoiding the conventional approach to new transformations.
Dragon Ball DAIMA is the fifth episode of the adventure anime franchise. It features most of the classic actors as outdated versions of themselves, including Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma. The series was announced at NYCC 2023, with creator Akira Toriyama returning to helm DAIMA.
