THE Pirates of the Caribbean the franchise came so close to having a real-life couple among its cast at the same time. Over the course of five films, this Disney franchise has included a wide range of actors, some of whom have become series regulars, while others have only appeared in a single film. A specific character returned to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Talesthe actor who played her could have been on screen with her husband. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
The first three Pirates of the Caribbean The films featured the same basic cast, with Johnny Depp starring as Jack Sparrow and Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom playing Elizabeth Swann and William Turner, respectively. However, the fourth film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On strange tidestook a new direction, with Depp being the only main cast member to return. He was joined by Penélope Cruz, who played the mischievous Angélica. Unfortunately, she didn’t return for the next film, which is a shame since her husband played the main villain.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales again took on a new angle, bringing in new characters and featuring cameos from the original cast. Actor Javier Bardem, Cruz’s husband since 2010, played the villain Captain Salazarthe cursed spirit of a man who holds a serious grudge against Jack Sparrow. This, of course, came after Cruz’s time on the franchise, so the married duo, who have made several films together in the past, both Pirates of the Caribbean films under his belt – but not the same.

Angélica was prepared to return
It would have been fun if Angélica de Cruz had returned to Pirates of the Caribbean 5 to appear alongside her husband Bardem. She could have been a fun villain herself, turning to Salazar’s spirit to get revenge on Jack after he tricked her into killing her father, Blackbeard. The post-credits scene of Pirates of the Caribbean 4 hinted that Angélica would return, but it appears that Disney decided to go in a different direction. In doing so, these married Pirates stars lost participation in this franchise at the same time.
Although his two characters have, as far as we know, nothing to do with each other, it would be fun for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to find a way to get them both on screen at the same time.
Of course, Pirates of the Caribbean it’s not over, and Disney has several new projects in the works. It’s possible that one of them will look to bring back some of the stars who appeared in previous films, including Cruz and Bardem. Although his two characters have, as far as we know, nothing to do with each other, it would be fun for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to find a way to get them both on screen at the same time. Of course, only time will tell if that wish will ever come true.
