Phasmophobia is getting a major overhaul that will affect “every contract you perform”

Heading to 2025, Kinetic Games, the developers of Phasmophobiagave players a brief preview of what's coming in the game's next major update. Originally released in October 2020, Phasmophobia is an early example of a cooperative objective-based horror game, in a similar vein to later releases such as Lethal Company and Content Noticetasking players with collecting evidence to identify ghosts in haunted locations. Four years after its release, the game is still in early access on Steam, but receives constant updates.

In a blog post by Kinetic Games Website, PhasmophobiaThe developers shared a preview of the content planned for the game's next major updatearriving at an unspecified date in 2025 – an update the post characterizes as “a major overhaul that will affect every contract you play.“The update will include major changes to some of the game's systems, including the Journal and the post-contract quality system, as well as other additions such as new equipment and a map rework.

The biggest addition in PhasmophobiaThe next update will bring some important changes to the game's systems, most notably a new "Media" tab in the Journal, replacing Photos. The Media tab will function similarly to the current Photos page, but with the notable addition of video camera captures as well as a new piece of equipment, the Sound Recorder. Overriding quality, captures will be classified as "Unique" with types Repeated captures offering less money and XP.

interactions, in the next update, they will be captured with video instead of photos, further encouraging players to get a variety of capture types, and videos will have their own section in the Journal's Media tab. The types of things that can be captured on video, according to the blog post, include events like “a door closing [its] own, an appearance on a DOTS projector or even a moving clipboard [a] Ouija board" - things that would be difficult to capture meaningfully in still photos.

Additionally, the update will add the previously mentioned sound recordera new player equipment with which they will be able to record "unique paranormal sounds" to the Journal's Media tab, giving a third capture type for players to hunt for. Outside of the Media tab, the blog post also promises a revamp of the Bleasedale Farmhouse locationwith a redesigned layout, visual improvements and completely new areas. Finally, the post teases a mysterious addition to Grafton Farm, in regards to Krampus.

There is currently no set date for the preview update, but it is in development for 2025, so players can expect it sooner rather than later. There is no set date for Phasmophobia leaving early access if that happens at all, but new updates should continue to improve the game going forward.
