In addition to focusing on a Pentatonix fan, Meet me next Christmas it features the band itself, even using it to tell its story. The 2024 Netflix film follows Layla as she tries to get a ticket to a Pentatonix performance in New York City in order to meet James, a man she met at an airport on Christmas Eve a year earlier. Since the beginning of Meet me next Christmas, It’s clear that Pentatonix plays a significant role in Layla’s life, as she loves their music, and the Christmas concert gives Meet me next Christmas’ main characters a place to reconnect. This gives Pentatonix a behind-the-scenes presence in the film, but it goes beyond that.
The a cappella group Pentatonix was formed in 2011, and although they have released many varied songs, they have become especially known for their Christmas carol performances. Pentatonix plays alone and randomly starts singing on Meet Me next Christmas
The film switches to Pentatonix’s perspective as they prepare for their Christmas concert.
While Layla searches New York for a ticket to the Pentatonix concert with the help of a concierge, Teddy, the film occasionally switches to the perspective of the Pentatonix themselves as they prepare for the show. As they are a crucial part of Layla’s Christmas plans, Meet me next Christmas switching perspectives to sarcastically show what Pentatonix does before the Christmas show is a funny juxtaposition to Layla’s stressful search.
Teddy begins using DM Pentatonix’s social media and, like the public, the band follows Layla’s search, as well as providing information on who they think she should be with.
In addition to just serving as actors within the film, as Meet me next Christmas progresses, Pentatonix also gets involved in Layla’s love story. Ultimately, Pentatonix decides to play matchmaker in Layla’s love life, sending her a ticket and making her choose between James and Teddy, giving her Meet me next Christmas a fun ending for the audience – and for the band.

The group pokes fun at artists’ stereotypes
Pentatonix’s performance in Meet me next Christmas It’s especially fun because they mock the stereotypes about being famous. The group challenges their manager with silly requests, such as printing more tickets for an ever-increasing number of family and friends as they prepare for the show, commenting that she has to do it “because they’re pop stars.” Pentatonix also randomly starts singing while talking, much to the annoyance of those around them, apparently everyone knowing exactly what to sing together without rehearsing.
These over-the-top dramas are a tongue-in-cheek portrayal of stardom, poking fun at both the reality of the performers and the stereotypes surrounding fame. Pentatonix’s shift in perspective and over-dramatization, as well as his intrusion into Layla’s love life, add an extra layer of comedy to the film.
