Golden Bachelorette star Pascal Ibgui made it to Joan Vassos’ final three, and even though he defied producers and called Chock Chapple a “stalker”, he still has a chance to become the Golden Bachelor. Whether he will be chosen as the protagonist of season 2 is up to the producers (not Pascal), but he would be a bold choice. The fact that he challenged the producers does not necessarily take him out of the running. In fact, it makes it intriguing.
Some reality TV shows probably suck for producers. They want to get along with these big bosses, as they are the ones who greenlight the shows and supervise the cast. Without the producers’ approval it is more difficult to progress. That’s what makes Guy so interesting. He openly told the producers what he thought they were doing wrong, hoping they would listen. He may see himself as a whistleblower – someone who is willing to say what few others would say. Whether he is or not depends on one thing: his honesty.
If Pascal is telling the truth about the producer’s interference, he was not wrong to point it out. Producers should allow cast members to build connections on their own. Producers create the structure and then cast members go from there. However, it is very easy to suspect that some on-screen action is staged (perhaps the operative term is “smooth script”). Pascal says yes. He feels he was pressured to dump a woman on television, in front of millions of viewers.
This left him feeling bad. She also felt bad. Pascal’s point of view is that he was forced to do something harmful. He seems to be very sensitive to behaviors that do not fit his ideal. That’s why he called Chock a “stalker” — it’s because he thinks Chock went too far in terms of getting close to Joan on the show. Of course, Chock isn’t a REAL stalker. Pascal didn’t like her energy with Joan – he found Chock too possessive and controlling.
That kind of honesty, for better or worse, is exactly what The Golden Bachelor needs. Gerry looked like a game show host and didn’t exactly like bitter comments that showed a bit of rebellious spirit and independent thinking. With Pascal, viewers would have unlimited entertainment. He has already criticized his bosses – he offended colleagues. He left a woman. This guy has the raw material to be electric on screen.
No, he may not be Romeo, but in all this acting, there is some semblance of the real person rather than an invented personality. He is expressing himself in a strong way. He’s not playing it safe. He’s not even trying to win a popularity contest. Until the show chooses a man who has the courage to be himself, there will always be softness and the chances of a true love marriage will be close to zero. Why? Because no one is getting real.
