Outlander: Blood of My Blood

Outlander: Blood of my blood is the next prequel to Outlander, and the spinoff looks poised to continue its original show’s legacy with a more unique narrative and authentic romance. Outlander has been a hugely successful project so far, chronicling the romantic relationship between Jamie and Claire after the latter is sent back in time to 18th century Scotland. The prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Bloodwill replace the main show after its eighth and final season, following Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.

Outlander is based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon and will end with season 8. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will also tell a story that goes far beyond Gabaldon’s novels, building on what has been shown about Jamie’s parents and their epic romance that challenged society’s norms and demands. Certain details about Outlander: Blood of My Bloodthe story and cast are already beginning to emerge – and although anticipation for Outlander the prequel series is on a roll, there’s still a lot to learn.

As production continues in the Outlander prequel to the spinoff, the latest news comes in the form of photos of Jamie and Claire’s parents. Images that span centuries show Claire’s parents sitting together in a vintage WWI carand also hugging as Henry prepares to leave for war. The other images focus on Jamie’s parents as they also hug and pose while looking at the camera. Much is still known about the prequel spinoff, but the costumes are already proving to be as detailed as the original series.

The announcement of Outlander: Blood of My Blood came in early 2023, when it was also announced that Outlanderseason eight would conclude the narrative and end the show. This gives the team plenty of time to continue working Outlander: Blood of my blood before the main show ends, creating a story as entertaining as the original. Since then, production details have begun to emerge and the series will begin filming in early 2024.

Filming finally ended in July 2024and Starz shared the exciting news on the official website Outlander page in Instagram. Despite the long period of time between the show’s ending and the end of 2024, Starz has yet to set a release date for Blood of my blood. This is likely due to the imminent second half of Outlander Season 7, and it could be that Starz has a very specific release plan in mind that may not begin until the end of Season 7.

Outlander Season 7, Part 2 premieres on November 22, 2024.

An all-new cast for the prequel

Although all the details about Outlander: Blood of My BloodThe cast has not been revealed, several important roles have already been filled. The two main couples were castand now it is known that Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy will play younger versions of Jamie’s parents, Ellen and Brianand Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine will play Julie and Harry, Claire’s future parents.

Since then, several other names have joined the cast, including Tony Curran, who will appear as Lord Lovat, Jamie’s grandfather. Additionally, Rory Alexander has been cast as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, while Sam Retford is Dougal MacKenzie. Brian McCardie will appear as Isaac Grant, in what was the last role the actor played before his death in April 2024. Peter Mullan will play Red Jacob MacKenzie, but like many of his co-stars, little is known about the role.

Matthew B. Roberts will return to Outlander universe to write and executive produce the Outlander spinoff series after working on the original show for several years. Roberts clearly understands what made this project such a success and can hopefully bring the same magic to the Outlander prequel. He joined Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davies in the writers’ roomwhile Roberts will oversee the series as showrunner. Diana Gabaldon will also be involved in Outlander: Blood of My Blood as a creative consultant.

The character Jamie tells the story of his parents’ marriage in the first season of Outlanderrevealing that it was a forbidden romance that happened despite their families’ objections. This will definitely be an important plot point. Outlander: Blood of my bloodkeeping tensions high between the characters from start to finish. Author Diana Gabaldon also teased some ideas she incorporated into Brian and Ellen’s romance: “There will be a lot of clan politics and other interesting things.” (through Stop).
