Outer Banks Season 5’s 7 Biggest Stories From the Season 4 Finale

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Outer Banks Season 4.Netflix External Banks season 4 created a shocking fifth and final season. Following the tragic death of Pogues’ JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow) in Morocco, his longtime friends are seeking revenge against his killer. External Banks The season 4 finale saw J.J. stabbed to death by his biological father, Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane). Like Season 4 worked to unravel the complicated race for the world’s most precious artifacts, External Banks season 5 probably further focus on the outcome of multi-season character arcs for the other Pogues through the lens of grief.

Before JJ’s death in the season finale the Pogues were dealing with a variety of issues. Pope Heyward (Jonathan Daviss Jr.) risked prison time for aiding and abetting JJ’s escape and was almost forced to join the Marines. At the same time, Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) is pregnant with her first child with John B. Routledge (Chase Stokes), and the two try to make their marriage official at the courthouse. Meanwhile, Rafe Cameron (Drew Starkey) may have finally redeemed himself. Despite External Banks’ finality surrounding JJ’s death, there are still a lot of loose ends to resolve in the show’s final season.

Sarah Cameron’s pregnancy with John B.’s baby

The couple will now need to find stability for their future child

After JJ vandalizes Figure 8’s downtown, the wealthy side of town dominated by Kook, the group searches the rubble for clues as to where JJ may have fled to. Sarah goes into her local pharmacy to take a pregnancy testand it comes back positive. In the drugstore bathroom, Sarah first confides in Kiara Carerra (Madison Bailey), promising to tell John B. once the group is more prepared for the day. Sarah’s pregnancy marks the first among the Pogues of External Banks and it’s one of season 4’s biggest twists.

Sarah and John B.’s relationship has progressed each season since the two met in season one. The couple was there for each other through thick and thin, from treasure hunts to family problems. and the loss of both parents. Ward Cameron is shot by Sarah in the Season 3 finale, which saw the group find El Dorado in South America. Similarly, John B.’s father, Big John, who was also on the expedition, passed away from an injury shot after an altercation with Singh’s men that could have killed his son.

Sarah intends to marry John B. and keep the pregnancyas the couple continues to have the happiest and healthiest relationship on the show through open communication and unconditional support. Although the pregnancy is welcome for the couple, who are 19 years old at this point in the program, External BanksIn the final season, they will likely have difficulty finding stability to raise a child since they currently have no home. Furthermore, they both suffer trauma from their respective upbringings in different ways and will have to take these feelings into account as they begin raising their children.

The Pogues want to avenge JJ’s death

External Banks season 4 revealed that JJ was adopted and his biological parents were Kooks. His mother was the late Larissa Genrette and his father was Chandler Groff a former Pogue who married into Figure 8 wealth. Although JJ is cautiously optimistic about meeting his father, the season ends with the revelation that Chandler is an internationally wanted violent criminal who likely killed Larissa, JJ’s grandfather, Wes, and more people on the Outer Banks and beyond. While Chandler competes with the Pogues for the prized Blue Crown in Morocco, he stabs and kills his son.

JJ was the longtime best friend of the Pogues and Kiara’s boyfriend. Although reckless, his selfless nature often kept the group together and helped several of the members get out of trouble over time. External Banks’ four-season run. Devastated and knowing that Chandler would go to Portugal with the rare artifact, season 4 ends with the group plotting to avenge JJ by killing his father.

At the same time, Pope made a life-changing decision. Normally the most sensible of the Pogues, Pope acted on impulse and shot and killed Lightner (Rigo Sanchez), a violent mercenary. The murder was to avenge Terrance, a ship captain who acted as a surrogate father to Cleo Anderson (Carlacia Grant), Pope’s girlfriend. Terrance helped the Pogues survive in the Caribbean and was murdered by Lightner in front of Cleo this season. Once Lightner’s men find out who killed him, they’ll probably go after Pope, too.

Rafe and Sarah reuniting with Wheezie

External Banks Season 4 finally saw Rafe’s redemption arc. Although hesitant at first, he finally decides to help the Pogues after Chandler also becomes his enemy, finally putting the two on the same side in the treasure hunting battle. When Rafe tells Sarah he’s afraid to trust her after everyone in his life has let him down, Sarah reminds him that she’s all he has left. The pair finally reconcile after three seasons of opposition.

Rafe briefly mentions trying to free Wheezie (Julia Antonelli), Cameron’s younger sister, in the custody of her stepmother Rose. Rose often conspired to commit crimes against innocent people with the Camerons’ late father, Ward (Charles Esten). Ward redeemed himself shortly before his death, making the ultimate sacrifice to save Sarah in External Banks season 3. Now that Sarah and Rafe are finally on the same side and have learned to forgive each other, it’s likely the pair will soon be reunited with their third sibling.

Rafe begins a relationship with Sofia, a Pogue who works as a bartender at the local yacht club.in season 3. This season, Rafe tells another Kook that he doesn’t take her seriously because of her socioeconomic status. Upon hearing this, Sofia has no qualms about betraying him to Hollis Robinson (Brianna Brown), who intends to implicate him in a bad faith deal for the Goat Island Genrette family estate. Sofia successfully hides this deception throughout season 4, until Rafe proposes.

In direct contradiction to what Rafe previously said about her, he tells Sofia he wants to build them a house and proposes a family ring. When Chandler kills Hollis to once again maintain full ownership of Goat Island, the layered plot is revealed and Sofia tells Rafe everything. During a crisis in Morocco, Rafe breaks off their engagement over the phone. Knowing Rafe’s reactions to the betrayal, it’s safe to assume this pair will likely split for good, and sheets the question of a new love interest for Rafe is open.

Rep. Shoupe finally prosecuting the crazies

Rep. Shoupe served as a complicated figure all over External Banks. At the end of the first season, Rafe shoots Sheriff Peterkin (Adina Porter) and blames the murder on John B. When Deputy Shoupe takes Peterkin’s place in the police department, he is immediately critical of the Pogues and often assumes that the group is always in the wrong and guilty of the city’s murders. In reality, many of the show’s most brutal crimes were committed by Kooks.

Near the end of External Banks Season 4, Shoupe finally begins to understand corruption from Figure 8. After Hollis turns up dead and with strangulation injuries, Shoupe finally puts the pieces together. He conducts an in-depth search that determines that Chandler is a member of the international treasure-hunting mercenary group, the Lupine Corsairs, and is a wanted man in several countries, has created several false identities, and has been married twice.

He also realizes that Chandler must have killed the man on the beach and Wes Genrette, who were strangled within a short sequence of each other. Realizing that Chandler is a highly skilled manipulator out for blood, Shoupe finally lets the Pogues go and begins to question how he has been prosecuting the city’s crimes. Season 5 could see Shoupe actively working on local criminal justice reform, bringing Chandler and other corrupt Kooks to justice.

The Pope’s University Journey

Will Pope join the Navy or go to college?

Pope is the only member of the Pogues who worked toward his General Education Diploma (GED) while building their surf shop after returning from South America. Although committed to his circle of friends and his girlfriend Cleo, Pope always thought about his future beyond the Outer Banks. Because he has a more stable home life, his parents have long supported his academic aspirations. Despite many setbacks, Pope planned to attend college after his gap year.

Now that the group has lost everything, he will once again rely on his trusted parents and the family fishmonger, and perhaps on his original plans for the future.

However, following his run-in with the law to protect JJ from the police, after he started a fight in court over the potential loss of his land, he was almost forced to join the Marines to avoid prosecution. Instead, he runs away to help his friends get to Morocco. Although most of the other Pogues are now orphans without stable homes,

Pope always had support for a more stable future. His decision to flee the law and eventually shoot and kill Lightner in Morocco could jeopardize his future and, otherwise, weigh heavily on his conscience, given his strong morals.

External Banks season 5 could explore what Pope’s future looks like. Now that the group has lost everything, he could once again trust his trusted parents and his family’s fish shop, and perhaps his original plans for his future. At the same time, Pope is often the responsible backbone the Pogues need, and the upcoming season will likely explore her complex feelings of sadness, hopes for her future, and loyalty to the group.

The group will fight for Poguelândia one last time

Upon their return to North Carolina after finding the lost city of El Dorado in External Banks in season 3, the team buys the land where JJ grew up. They build a pier and a humble surf shop and cultivate the land with a vast vegetable garden. Although they live peacefully off the land, JJ’s excessive anxiety about securing the land caused the group to pay well above the asking price at auction. JJ also bets his last gold coinleaving the group financially vulnerable.

The battle to save their land, which they dubbed “Poguelândia‘ after the desert island they were stranded on in season 3 was left open. Especially now that JJ has been murdered, the group will likely fight harder than ever to keep the land in his honor as another step toward avenging his death. With the amount of persistent questions External Banks season 5 has to answer, there could even be a time jump that offers a glimpse into how the Cut preserves JJ’s memory.
