Netflix’s action-adventure drama External Banks was renewed for a fifth and final season on the platform. First debuting in 2020, the show is set on the coast of North Carolina’s Outer Banks and follows the conflict between working-class residents (known as Pogues) and wealthy tourists (known as Kooks) in search of lost treasure. . Created by twin brothers Josh and Jonas Pate and screenwriter and novelist Shannon Burke, the show features an ensemble cast and, led by External Banks Season 5, the rest of season 4 will soon air.
Netflix has green light External Banks 5th season and confirmed that it will be the lastending the story. The renewal comes just days before the second half of season 4 is released on Netflix, with the streamer revealing that part 1 debuted at number one on its global English TV chart and remained in the top 10 for three weeks. The three co-creators revealed that they always planned to tell their story over five seasons, and that they plan to make the final season the best of the bunch. Check out the trio’s joint statement below:
Shipping to all Pogues:
Seven years ago, in the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. This photo gave rise to the idea for a story about four best friends who just want to have fun all the time. From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunts and friendship.
At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we could actually tell the entire five-season story, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still cutting.
The fourth season was the longest and most difficult – but most rewarding – to produce. The season ends with a feature-length episode, which we consider our best and most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same.
Now, with some sadness but also excitement, we are leaving Season Four behind and turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season five will be our last and we think it will be the best yet. We hope you’ll join us for another paddle to the surf break.
P4L,
Josh, Jonas and Shannon
What this news means for the external banks conclusion
Knowing the end is near gives the co-creators time to map out the ending
There could have been hope External Banks would last more than five seasons, but this seemingly marks a natural conclusion. Much will depend on how the writers decide to end the series and the stories that will be tied up. THE External Banks The trailer for season 4, part 2, shows the gang going to Morocco in search of Blackbeard’s treasure, which could be a plot point that extends into season 5. Knowing that season 5 will be the end allows producers to plan the conclusion well in advanceand work to reach the most satisfactory conclusion possible.
There’s a good chance the final season will be split into two parts, like Outer Banks season 4 was, and this could increase the episode count and allow for a longer narrative in the end.
However, the risk of concluding External Banks With only one more season there may not be enough time to properly wrap up the Pogues’ story in the best way possible. There are a lot of plot threads the show needs to wrap up, and there may not be time for it in the available episode count. There’s a good chance the final season will be split into two parts, as External Banks season 4 wasand this could increase the episode count and allow for a longer narrative in the end.
Our Take on How The Outer Banks Will End
Plot points from the beginning of the season may be revisited
It is likely that the conclusion to John B’s mysterious disappearance and reappearance will finally be reached, and I believe we will find out if the Pogues will finally discover the legendary treasure they were looking for and save their home. Of course, there are also the interpersonal relationships between the gang and conflicts with the Kooks that will also need to be resolved. If External Banks is getting the farewell that many believe he deserves, these are plot points that will need to be resolved satisfactorily.
External Banks Season 4, Part 2 arrives on Netflix on Thursday, November 7th.
