Madelyn Cline reprises her role as Sarah Cameron in External Banks season 4, and while While she’s technically the main character for the first five episodes, part 2 should fix a glaring issue regarding Sarah’s arc. Originally a Kook, Sarah joins the Pogues in the first season of the Netflix teen drama when she falls in love with John B. Sarah has practically left her life of luxury behind to live among the Pogues, who make her the happiest. Although Cline’s character has been at the forefront of the narrative in many episodes, her story differs in External Banks season 4.
Netflix Division External Banks season 4 in two parts, each with five episodes – part 1 will be released on October 10, 2024, and part 2 will be released a month later, on November 7.

Outer Banks Season 4 Part 1 Largely Sidelined Sarah Cameron
The first five episodes mainly focus on other characters
After Ward Cameron’s death in External Banks Season 3 Sarah was sidelined in Season 4, Part 1. Other than helping the Pogues in their Blackbeard adventure, Sarah doesn’t have much of a story in the first five episodes of Season 5. in part 1 (in terms of his individual arc), which is strange given how significant his role has been throughout the entire TV show. It seems now that her father is (truly) gone, Sarah’s story took a backseat, so External Banks can focus on other characters.
Sarah’s arc doesn’t actually progress until the end of External Banks Season 4, part 1.
Of course, Sarah and John B have the sweet scene of them exchanging rings they made for each other, and episode 5 ends with Sarah and Pope trapped in the crypt beneath the church. But other than that, Sarah’s arc doesn’t progress until the end of External Banks Season 4, part 1. Cline’s character isn’t that important to the narrative either. despite her history on Netflix’s mystery action-adventure teen drama, and that’s set to change in part 2.
Outer Banks Season 4 Part 2 Needs to Give Sarah a Bigger Role in Rafe’s Story
Rafe wants to reunite with Sarah
The good news is that Rafe Cameron’s story in External Banks season 4, part 1, lays the groundwork for Sarah to have a larger role in the story in part 2. Rafe initially blames Sarah for his father’s death. However, his mindset regarding his relationship with his sister changes after signing a deal with Hollis Robinson to purchase land on Goat Island. Rafe wants to be like his father, leaving the past in the past and bringing the Cameron family back together. So, Rafe wants to make up with Sarah.
Rafe doesn’t get a chance to reunite with his sister at the end of episode 5, as she’s busy being trapped in a crypt in Charleston. However, part 2 will no doubt show him trying to patch things up with Sarah. Of course, she and Pope must first somehow avoid drowning in the crypt. As soon as she escapes, Sarah’s new storyline with Rafe could give her a more substantial role to play in the plot in External Banks Season 4, part 2.
