Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 4 and Dexter season 2.A dark theory about Dexter: Original Sin could explain why Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar) never appeared in the original Dexter series. The cast of Dexter: Original Sin features some returning names from the original show, such as Vince Masuka (Alex Shimizu), Angel Batista (James Martinez) and Maria LaGuerta (Christina Millian). There are only a few completely new characters in Miami Metro, one of which is Tanya Martin. Since she was never mentioned in the original series, the prequel show will have to find a way to remove Tanya at some point between when Dexter: Original Sin happens and when the original show started.
Now it seems that Original sin could have a very inventive way to eliminate Tanya. After Dexter: Original Sin episode 4, everyone is trying to find Jimmy Powell's killer. Miami Metro detectives have few leads, and even their first theory - that Jimmy was killed by the cartel to punish his father, Judge Powell - is starting to look incorrect. One theory suggests that they are looking in the wrong direction and that they should look inward, specifically at Tanya Martin.
Tanya Martin Is Jimmy Powell's Killer – Dark Dexter: Original Sin Theory Explained
Tanya may have a shadowy passenger like Dexter, and her insider knowledge of law enforcement would help her cover her tracks
Several people on Reddit - like user faejae0208 - theorized that Tanya Martin may be behind the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Jimmy Powell. The theory has some merit: it suggests that, like Dexter, Tanya was drawn to forensic science because she also has a “dark passenger,” or at least an obsession with violence and death. At some point, Tanya would have started killing, and her knowledge of forensic work would have helped her remove any evidence linking her to any of her crimes. Tanya also knew exactly how much force it would take to cut off a child's finger, which would have helped her do the job herself.
The theory that Tanya is a serial killer would also fit with what Original sin revealed about the investigation into Jimmy's death. The whole case was quite confusing: Harry (Christian Slater) and other detectives first thought that the cartel might be involved in Jimmy's death.. The way his body was exposed, however, and the fact that the kidnappers never demanded ransom completely confused them. It could be that Tanya specifically targeted Jimmy because of his knowledge of law enforcement. She knew the Miami Metro would assume it was the work of the cartel, making it even harder for her to get caught.
Tanya Martin could be Dexter's final death in Original Sin season 1
Dexter typically saves the deaths of each season's main antagonists for the finale
If Tanya is Jimmy Powell's killer, she could end up being the last person Dexter kills at the end of Original sin season 1. For each of the eight seasons of DexterDexter would be hunting a serial killer throughout the season. It would only be at the end of the season, however, that Dexter would actually catch his prey and kill them: this happened with every Dexter serial killer, from the Ice Truck Killer to the Brain Surgeon. Original sin may be waiting to give Dexter the chance to kill Tanya by the end of the season.
Tanya being Jimmy Powell's killer would open up a huge plot hole in the original Dexter series
If the Miami subway had not one, but two serial killers, Dexter would have mentioned it
Tanya Martin being Jimmy Powell's killer wouldn't be a perfect choice as it would open up a huge plot hole for the original. Dexter. If there was another serial killer hiding in plain sight on the Miami subway, Dexter would almost certainly have mentioned him when lamenting how James Doakes (Erik King) was the only person who knew he was weird.. At the very least, he would have mentioned Tanya when Doakes was believed to be the Bay Harbor Butcher and when he became responsible for the deaths of two different co-workers.
There's another reason why the fact that Tanya was never mentioned in the original Dexter It's so strange. Tanya is Dexter's mentor in forensic science, but if she proves to be a killer, she could also become his mentor in another way. Dexter usually talks to his victims and tries to learn from them, and would probably do the same with Tanya. If Tanya gave Dexter some pearls of wisdom about balancing being a killer and hiding in plain sight, it would be even stranger that Dexter never thought to recall her advice..
At this point in Dexter: Original Sin, it's too early to say for sure whether Tanya Martin is a killer.
There is also a chance that Tanya did not kill Jimmy Powell, and that Original sin will have to find a different way to exclude her from the show. Some theories have even suggested that Tanya will find out who killed Jimmy and that she will be killed to protect the real killer. At this point in Dexter: Original SinIt's too early to say for sure whether Tanya Martin is a killer. One thing is certain, though: the show will have to deal with her somehow.
